I assume that they're just joking for the BG game? Considering the BG game is August 30th. Just something i stumbled across and was wondering if anyone knew when tickets would be available through BG ticket office or anything like that.
Your right. I found that funny as well. I posted the link below. It has a blurb about BG and Buffalo. How was Buffalo CO-East division champs, when BG beat them head to head and had a better conference record? I read that on a MAC site as well.

Looks like tickets are $25. Section 114 is where my Steeler tickets are. It is a great place to watch a game. For anyone wanting free parking, you can park in a neigborhhood for free and walk. It is about a 15 minute walk however.

BG, Buffalo, and Miami all had the same east division conference record, but Miami beat both BG and Buffalo, so Miami got the crown. However, all three were east co-champs.

I'll give the first whack at a prediction on the official schedual:

PITT L I think we can beat them, I just don't think we WILL beat them

Minny W No way do we lose to the first ever big ten team in the DOYT

Boise L That turf is a joke.

Wyoming L Our last loss of the season

EMU W

Akron W This and Kent might be intense games

MU W The guys won't forget last year, if they do there's a coaching problem

NIU W Tragedy or not, they still aren't good.

Kent W Never thought I would be looking forward to the big games with UA and KSU

OHIO W I jjust can't predict a loss to my sister's school

Buffalo W Might be the game that decides the East champs

TU W Time to go on a 15 year stretch of whoop-azz

9-3 sounds good, maybe too good. The only M.A.C. losses I could really predict would be to Miami or TU. Don't think it will happen though. Time for that championship coach.

The first 3 games are doozies, yikes. That might be the best OOC schedule in the MAC this year, Pitt will be much better, Minny will be better and while Boise had a down year, the smurf turf is like poison to any opponent. The rest of the schedule is winnable, and I'm hoping for some major revenge on Miami this year.

I don't remember much about the returning players for these schools. I know that Kent brings back Edelman and Jarvis and Akron lost Arthur. Do they have some big time talent that gives them a legitimate shot at going from the bottom to the top?

Not sure exactly what they are returning but they have both been climbing out of the M.A.C. depths last couple years. Ever since 2005 I get nervous about both teams.

Kent might be tough this year, as both Edelman and Jarvis are back. Supposedly KSU had the best recruiting class in the MAC this year too, according to both Vandelay Sports and MAC Report Online, so they might have a few instant contributors. Akron on the other hand might be the worst team in the East Division this year. They lost their one true playmaker on offense, their quarterback situation is unsettled, and their defense isn't as good as Zip fans make it out to be (we hung 44 on them at the Doyt this year.)

I think Kent could be a tough game, but we should probably win as we are at home for that game. Akron we should probably steamroll despite it being on the road.

If I had to make a preliminary season prediction right now, this would be it:

@ Pittsburgh - L - I think we compete well in this one, but lose a close one
Minnesota - W - Minny isn't very good, this time it won't take overtime to win.
@ Boise State - L - No road team ever wins in Boise, ever. Broncos win big.
@ Wyoming - W - Coming off the bye, I think the team refocuses and pulls out a tough, close game in Laramie.
Eastern Michigan - W - Just like in 2006, BG beats EMU on homecoming, probably by a few touchdowns
@ Akron - W - BG cruises into Roo-Town and lays waste to the Zips.
Miami - L - First of all, Miami owns us. 2nd of all, this game is probably parent/family weekend, which immediately means an L. Miami wins big.
@ Northern Illinois - W - NIU will likely be improved, but BG wins this one by two scores-ish.
Kent State - W - This is probably the toughest game of the season to call, I go with BG in a close one.
@ Ohio - W - BG gets payback on the bobcats for ruining their East Division chances in 2007, wins by two scores
Buffalo - W - I say Buffalo is out of contention by this game, and BG runs them out of the Doyt.
@ Toledo - W - Toledo will be motivated for this one, but BG will prevail in a game that goes down to the wire.

So as of March 13th, 2008, I'm thinking 9-3 with a 7-1 mark in conference.

Pitt: W (by < 3 points)
- Not as good as everybody says they will be, but defense is nasty good. BG wins a close one.
Minnesota: W (very close)
- Much improved from last year but still really shakey early on. We win but their offense keeps it very close.
Boise State: L (could be ugly)
- Home field advantage that makes passing very difficult. DBs camoflauge into the field. Could be a blowout.
Wyoming: L (unfortunately)
- Evenly matched teams, but stadium is highest elevation in the country and BG can't last the whole game.
EMU: W
- EMU is my darkhorse to win the MAC West. Their defense should still be good, offense may be decent, or EMU may just be EMU again.
Akron: W
- Very well coached team that will rebuild in a hurry. We win again.
Miami: W (but I said that for the past two years ... )
- Miami is a very similar team to last year. We finally beat them up because we'll be ready this time, or one can hope.
Northern Illinois: W
- Northern Illinois might take a step back from last year with the coaching change. Jerry Kill has a big project on his hands.
Kent: W
- I'm one to believe that Kent was a one time wonder in 2006. I don't expect any noise from them anytime soon.
Ohio: W
- Extremely well coached team, great defense, but has some serious personnel losses, namely McRae.
Buffalo: W
- Like Kent, I believe Buffalo was a one time wonder in 2007. I have an instinct that they'll be Buffalo again.
Toledo: W (I hope ... I have a bad feeling about this one)
- Ridiculously good offense, can't be worse on defense. Toledo could be primed for a breakout season, and if thats the case, I'd hate to say it but we could be in for a bad game up there.

Just all my preseason thoughts, sorry for the long-ass post.

Prediction NOT through orange-colored glasses

Post by cph2133 »

10-2? 9-3? We would have a good year going 8 and 4 again.

@Pitt - L
Minne - W
@Boise - L
Wyoming - W
EMU - W
@Akron - W
Miami - L
@NIU -W
Kent -W
@OU - W
Buffalo - L
@Toledo - W

Kent or OU could go either way, hopefully we'll sweep those two, but i really could see a split. OF course we have the ability to run the table in the Mac like some are predicting, but I highly doubt that'll happen.

Mark,

I like your thinking. I don't think there is a team in the MAC on our sked that we cannot beat in 2008. I don't feel good about Boise State cuz, well, they never lose there. WY can go either way...so can Pitt but I am not convinced Pitt is as good as people say either.
MN? I think we take them by 2 tds in our home opener as it should be a sell out.

I am not convinced Akron will be good at all....Brookhart isn't THAT good of a coach. Miami will be tough and since they've won 8 of the last 9 against us, it will be a tough game. Kent, Ohio and Buffalo...we *should* beat them all....Should being the key word.

UT? Hard to tell. If Opelt plays, this is gonna be a war. I think we FINALLY get that elusive W in the glASS Bowl. It's been 6 straight defeats in that place!!!! :x

I like 9-3, 7-1 MAC...possibly 10-2 if we can take 3 outta 4 out of conference...which would be a huge accomplishment. But the bottom line for me in 2008? WIN THE MAC CHAMPIONSHIP!!! Even if we go 0-4 out of conference but win the MAC title, I'll take it. It's been too damn long and this is a great opportunity with just about everyone back. We *should* be the team to beat in the East.

Damn, let's get the season going...WIN THE MAC IN '08!

I would love to see us not lose a single home game this year. In 2004 we did not lose a single home game, and that was an incredible feeling. When you always win at home, you draw big crowds. If we win every home game on this schedule, we beat the one team I think we may actually lose to, Miami.
