BG loses 68-66 in Double OT.....

Post by Falconboy »

All I can say is what game. Its still bizzare when we lose and still sucks too but we move on. OU got a few bs calls here and there on Tara and Kate to lead to their eventual fouling out and leaving 4 frosh and the lone Jr. Goldsberry out to try and take the game. The frosh played hard and well though, just missed a few golden opportunities that could've sealed the game for us. That happens, it happened with the last large freshman class in a Mac semi-final, but it didn't signal the end of anything. OU/Miami should enjoy the going while its good now cuz its gonna get even harder in the years to come. This is just a slight hiccup in our eventual re-domination of the Mac.

As for more post-season play , I assume the WNIT will come calling soon. Be real nice to get a home game if thats even possible or at least a very close venue for falcon fans to travel to.

We have an automatic bid to the WNIT because we are regular season champions of a conference. So we're in. A home game is a good possibility.

And just once could you not blame a loss on the officials. Every single time we lose, to you it's at least in part to a "BS call." You act like BG has never gotten a call. Just get over the officiating crew already.

I don't blame the officals. This wasn't even the worst officiated game by far but 1, 2 or 3 calls here and there that were total bullcrap added to the few legimate ones Kate or Tara did have and they ended fouling out. Like Kates' last foul that fouled her out was totally legit but many that I saw previously I just shook my head in disbelief. It was becoming painfully obvious to the to anyone watching that they needed Kate and Tara out of the game for them to gain the upper hand. I'm not saying there's some conspiracy against BG but Tara has seemed to get picked on for "cheapies" for most of the season. Those games where Tara has had major foul trouble we either have lost or had real tough games. It just seems as though Kate was somehow conveniently added to the mix today and it was our eventual downfall.

So yeah, while I believe that officiating for Mac Women's BB sucks just like the men I don't believe that in of itself was why we lost. We lost cuz we had 4 frosh out there at the end in crunch time and they missed some buckets down low and had a defensive breakdown that lead to the game winner. No fault of the refs just freshman inexperience. The freshman still played an awesome game in the 2nd half, gave us life even with Kate on the bench, played hard and almost did the impossible. Needless to say , I'm pretty much jacked about the upcoming '08/'09 season. Its a shame it so far away.

Congrats to Ohio as they won a very hard fought battle. BG got down and came back in a BiG way but the Bobcats would not quit. They willed their way to the win. One of the best games I've ever seen....total excitement and even though BG didn't pull it out, they didn't give up and the freshman gained invaluable experience. In the 2nd OT, we had 4 freshmen on the floor at one time. This bitter taste will only fuel the fire for the next few years. OU was picked to win the East and they wanted this one badly...especially after losing to BG twice by 15 this year. They were on fire in the first half and ran some very efficient offensive sets.

WNIT ain't a bad reward to go along with the regular season crown....in a rebuilding year....25-7. I'll take that in a rebuilding year any day of the year.

HELL OF A SEASON FALCONS!!!! WE ARE SO VERY PROUD OF YOU ALL!!

Get after it in the WNIT>

Not to nitpick with your terminology Freak, but I like to refer to as re-LOADing rather than rebuilding. Rebuilding describes more of what the men are in the midst at the moment.

Miller sounded hot in the post game press conference. Not Michigan-raving-lunatic-blame-your-team hot, but clearly frustrated about the opportunity that slipped away after BG established themselves as the conference's best, most consistent team over the last few weeks. It's exactly the right attitude to have and should give the coaching staff a fresh challenge going into next year.

Also, how well-spoken is Kate Achter? She breaks down the game more articulately than 90% of the analysts on ESPN.

What happened to BG chucking the three ball? I dont think I saw a single 3 point attempt by BG during the last eight minutes of regulation and the 10 minutes of overtime. BG use to just take every open shot that they had, now it seems to be more of a dribble drive team.

Very scary for BG to be this good already.

Personally the refs blew as OU was allowed to be much more physical then BG.

So does my dog. When he's not licking himself.

That's pretty much been the case in all of our games this year. Particularly when it pertains to Tara Breske. Like I said before, her and Otis Polk had a side bet going on who could accumulate more fouls this year. Does anybody know who has more?

But I agree with Freak, this game was more about our freshmen attempting to put away a tough team in overtime. If they had managed to pull that off it would have been amazing. We've had a great year, and I hope that we end up with a WNIT home game.

The only officiating mistake I'll point out here is that I really thought the last shot attempt in regulation by BG really deserved a call. She got mugged and there was no whistle. I know people always say the ref shouldn't decide the game with their whistle, but they also shouldn't decide it by being unwilling to make the call.

I'll have to agree with those who feel that the officiating is not to blame. I didn't see a single call...or non-call.....that had any kind of effect on the outcome of the game. Definitely no calls that they easily couldn't have played right through. Actually, looking at things objectively, there were plenty of calls against Ohio that were head scratchers as well so as painful as it is to admit...the calls were pretty even. The game was really lost in the first 13 minutes when they couldn't make a shot and couldn't stop Ohio on the defensive end. Once they allowed OU to hang around that long, you could see the confidence of the visiting team grow by leaps and bounds. They had plenty of chances to put OU away in the 2nd half and in the 1st OT and just let it slip away. It happens. Even to very good teams and this team we have is a VERY good team. My heart really hurt for Kate and Whitney but even more so for the Freshmen who played like 3 or 4 year vets more often than not. They weren't in it to play well, they were in it to win it. Their poise was amazing. Pontius, I "think", showed that we've got ourselves a PG who has plenty of ability to be a floor leader in crunch situations and I am SO impressed with Jen Uhl. That young lady has star written all over her. I was quite saddened when the final horn blew on Friday but this team has a major run in them for the WNIT and as for next season.....once I wiped away the tears, well, the future is so bright, I haven't been able to take off the shades. :D

also....did anyone else see Megan Thorburn at the game Friday? I was sitting straight across from the BG bench and she was sitting one row in front of me, across the aisle. She left with about 10 minutes to go so I was wondering if she went and joined the main rooting section.
