Kent State will not make the field if they do not win the MAC tournament. Period.

Almost 30 years have gone by and BG has never won the tourney??? That kills me. I'm also 39, born Feb 1968. Wow. I hope we get there someday soon. Please. :x
Mike, I know the "age" thing can be a sensitive issue,....but aren't you FORTY now? :-D

This thread seems to be a verbatim duplicate of what gets posted each year when the season ends, only the number of years has increased by one!

- Look at that pathetic list of teams
- Can't believe we got screwed in 1997, 1999, and 2002 (still angry!)
- If only we we'd win the tourney one damn time
- Just once in my life
- Remember that one-point loss to Marquette at Kent State?
- {INSERT NAME OF REGULAR SEASON CHAMP} will get an at-large bid if they don't win the tourney
- No, the committee will screw {INSERT NAME OF REGULAR SEASON CHAMP} because this is the MAC

In fact, the first part of the thread is an EXACT verbatim of the thread that was posted here last year.

Here's the current profile of Kent State from espn.com. They are listed under the "should be in" category:

Kent State [25-6 (13-3), RPI: 25, SOS: 117] The Golden Flashes ambushed Akron early and then held on for the win that most likely puts them into the field of 65. It would be wise to avoid a flameout in the MAC quarters. Anything beyond that should be good enough. A win over Illinois State out of conference could come in handy, especially after the Redbirds' MVC final fiasco.

That RPI number is pretty strong. I would agree that a loss to Toledo today should knock them out, but beyond that the overall profile looks good.

I could care less about the NCAA, though a nice run like Miami or others have had, would be nice. Fun, but doomed, which is why I wouldn't want to bother traveling or getting wrapped up in the games.

I'm waiting for team to win the bloody MAC, I'd rather keep the bowl system....wait, wrong thread. 8)

Just to chime in, Kent will not make the NCAA field without a MAC Championship.

Take American off the list, they just got in for the first time in school history today. Sadly, I can see BG sitting on that ever-shrinking list all by itself in a few years.

Well, I poked my head in here to make my annual post on this, and you all beat me to it.

American is in. They joined Division I in 1967 and finally made the tournament.

Also, William & Mary almost got over the hump, but they lost to George Mason in the Colonial final.

So we have an Unlucky Thirteen -- the number of teams that have been playing Division I basketball since Bowling Green last made the NCAA tournament, in 1968, without making it to the Big Dance.

Here's the Unlucky Thirteen:

Columbia: Last appeared in 1968
Tennessee Tech: Last appeared in 1963
Yale: Last appeared in 1962
Maine: Division I since 1962
New Hampshire: Division I since 1962
Centenary (La.): Division I since 1960
Dartmouth: Last appeared in 1959
Harvard: Last appeared in 1946
Army: Division I since 1948
Citadel: Division I since 1948
Northwestern: Division I since 1948
St. Francis (N.Y.): Division I since 1948
William & Mary: Division I since 1948

It is amazing that there are 4 Ivy League teams on there. A lot of suffering in that conference.

Northwestern floors me the most. I mean, doesn't the Big Ten get, like, 10 bids a year? How have they never snuck in, in that league?

Well, espn.com just put Kent into the "lock" category following last night's victory over Miami, so they disagree with you.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but, Go Zips! If they beat Kent tonight, the MAC has two teams dancing. This game tonight just might sellout the Q, its exactly the matchup that the MAC was looking for.

If Akron wins, that must mean Chryst is doing a great job.
