The Logo... For Television Purposes it was positioned to face North/South as opposed to east/west. Twice a game the cameras will distinctly show the Redhawk as players fly up the ice. Its also enough to catch your attention that it is different from anyone else.
For schools that beg to have students attend sports, the fact that the students get into it should be encouraged to a point. I'd love to see Rico tell our fans to not have the foul language, but that really comes down to the administation making a statement about what is and isn't acceptable.
Hicks? Hicks? Come on now folks... I know that growing up in BG people referred to people from BG as Hicks... they aren't... now People in Oxford are hicks? Not really. Hell Columbus is refferred to as a hick town. Personally I don't think that any of us live far enough south to be referred to as Hicks or Hillbillies.
Referring to banners is nice and all, but unless you've won something recently it really doesn't mean much. Its like saying that Army has an amazing football program because of all of their National Championships. The banners are nice to have, but BG's program has been pretty blah for the better part of a decade.
As for people transferring.... tons of kids graduate from Miami just fine... actually Miami has the highest graduation rate of any public university in the state at 87%, so kids may transfer, but they do graduate at a MUCH higher rate then those that going to other state schools.
I do however smile at the MiAudi comment... I love Audis!

Welcome to the board!! We love having more BG hockey fans on here!!DWhite21 wrote:To be honest I'm not at all surprised by how their student section acted the entire game. After seeing their fans jeer our players during warmups(one kid was even talking trash through the seamless glass) I knew that it would pretty annoying sitting right next to their student section. The majority of the Miami student population is a bunch of rich, stuck up snobs who think that they're better than everyone. I've visited friends there many times and I've known 2 friends who have transferred from MU for that reason alone. They don't call it JCrew U for nothing.
On a better note, I'm really thinking that we can pull out a win tonight. We did outshoot them for most of the game last night. Although the two 5 minute penalties did help. I'm guessing Eno will be in tonight so we'll see if he can step up his game in the biggest game of the season.
Sorry my first post was so negative, I just needed to let off some steam.
GO ICERS!!
JUST WIN IT!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

our guys are playing well were behind 2-1 right now, but were playing hard. Win or loose we have made huge strides forward in returning our back to tops in the CCHA and the Nation.
I think its good for the CCHA for teams like Miami to rise from being a whipping post for so many years...so many in fact they almost pulled the plug...its good, it makes us competitve. Look at Wayne State they have pulled the plug only to start talking about restarting the program in a new facility with the wings. the banners are symbol of status, for Programs that have gotten it done. While we have not gotten it done lately, we used to and we are headed back...and i will be sure to return some trash talk

I just got home from the game and although I'm disappointed, I think that we really played hard and gave them everything we had. Eno will probably be the scapegoat for the loss b/c they didn't even come close to us in shots. Even though he def. could've played better, two goals from our guys probably isn't going to be enough to take down a team like MU. On their first goal Maxwell didn't tie up the MU player's stick and he put a shot in from right in front of the net off the rush, Eno didn't get over fast enough but there wasn't a whole lot he could do. Their third goal was a really nice 3 way passing play and the kid pretty much had an empty net to shoot into, not much Eno could do once again. The last goal Ryan Jones just sniped from around the top of the circle.
Even though we went down in two games pretty easily I'm still pumped about the season. I'm a junior so this was by far the best season they've had since I've been at BG.

I got back a little bit ago from the game as well. I understand what you mean about having fans at games and things, but I really think there is a difference between great fan support and not having class. Yeah rotten eggs ruin it but every person that even glanced over at our section was being really, really rude.
In response to the diving comment, I did not see the first hit where Jones got kicked out, but I did see the second one and I did see Tomas come back to the game. Tomas was hurt and he played through it. To even say that Petruska would dive is an insult to him I think because in my opinion he's a very genuine player.
I'm sad about the loss, but we had one hell of a season. I'm looking forward to next year already. I won't be going to Oxford again, though. I did realize, however, that in the seven hours between hotel check out and the game that the only thing there is to do in Oxford is check out a covered bridge and hang out at Walmart. I won't be going back unless we have a playoff game there next year.

I just got home from the game. Was at the Friday game too. Disappointed but definitely encouraged for next year. Here are a few of my observations, just my opinions.
1. Amazing arena. Absolutely state of the art in my opinion. I was surprised though that it only holds about 3,500. I even spoke to a few Miami fans who wished it was a little bigger.
2. We played well for a period or so on Friday and for 2 periods tonight.
3. Despite the fact that it was the beginning of their spring break, there was a lot of students there. Wish we could have gotten the students to the games against Lake State last week. I too was a little fed up with the Miami students language but it's like that at other places too. I ended up moving down to the south end of the arena to get away from it.
4. Miami is an excellent team, bigger, faster and stronger and even though the hit by Jones last night was bad, I would not call him a goon. He's solid and his goal tonight in game 2 was excellent.
5. We should be very encouraged by this season and I think we have a lot to look forward to next year. Nice to see AD Greg Christopher at the game tonight.
6. I ran into former voice of Falcon Hockey Andy Evans. Great to see him. He misses calling the games very much.
Go Falcons. Roll on October 2008.

It was a wonderful arena, but I noticed the sound was strange compared to our own ice arena. I felt like our own arena with the 1,000 people in it this weekend was a lot louder than theirs with 3,500 people in it. I know it has to do with the way the building is made, but that still comforted me.
