Curt's comments
Was anyone surprised by Curt's comments following the OU loss? The gist of it (from the Blade article)-Paraphrased by me, was, "it's not the same (championship game) without BG in it. They (the MAC) may think it's good, but they'll have to enjoy the game with the THIRTY fans from each school".
Total attendance at the OU-MU game was just under 2,000, slightly less than the OU_BG game, which also benefitted from the UT-MU game before it.
I guess I'm a bit surprised at this comment from Curt'; I can understand disappointment (we all were)...but I don't think this comment was appropriate for the situation.
Anyone else have opinions on this? Sorry, but I don't know how to link the article (by Ryan Autillo)

Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dl ... /803150431"The MAC can tell you what they want, but it's not the same type of tournament without BG," Miller said. "They can go cheer with their 30 fans from the other schools."
The last sentence does seem to strike me as a bit harsh. I'm not sure what he was trying to say with it, but there's no reason to make a comment like that.

Re: Curt's comments
Yes. I loved it. It was a heat of the moment thing that wasn't politically correct, but who cares? BG has proven to be a big draw and has unbelievable fan support. You really can't compare the two games cited because one was a semifinal and the other was for a championship and a birth in the NCAA tournament.Class of 61 wrote:Was anyone surprised by Curt's comments following the OU loss? Maybe it will motivate the MAC to support their womens basketball programs more, something the conference needs.
Re: Curt's comments
I think Curt was letting our fans know that he appreciates their loyalty to the program. I've been @ most of the away games this season----almost all games we have more orange in the stands & make more noise than the home team. I was @ the Championship game--they kept MU & OU on the TV viewing side of the court so it looked like there were a lot of people there. WE had almost 2000 ourselves for our game. We would have filled the side behind the bench as we did 4 semi. IMO MAC lost $$$$. There were MU people there actually cheering-- it was so quiet @ their game I got yelled @ for cheering 4 BG. So they got the automatic berth probably a low seed due to record & other items---we may be there too---with a higher seed.JoeFalcon wrote:Class of 61 wrote:Was anyone surprised by Curt's comments following the OU loss? Yeah, I don't think anything Curt said was out of line. Sometimes the truth hurts, and the truth is that a lot of schools in this conference get very poor support for their women's programs. Coach Miller has put seven years into building this program to this point, and if other fans or coaches have a problem with him stating the truth, then that sounds like a "them" problem. Does it sound a bit arrogant? Maybe. But so do four consecutive conference titles, three tournament titles, and a Sweet Sixteen run. 8)

I think it's pretty amusing, but at the same time, can only imagine if a coach with a name that rhymes with, say, "Macey Poller" or "Bark Meelan" would have made them, we'd already be lighting the second round of torches and re-sharpening the pitchforks.

Agreed, TG. I found those comments very surprising. Seems very out out character for Curt. Must have been really fired up from the loss.

1) The comments were out of character from the CM we know (through sound bites.) It was hyperbolic and could have been crafted better in my view.
2) I'm not one to judge anyone on something said in the heat of the moment. My manager has a running tally of my foibles. Most of which are said "heat of the moment" and/or from mental exhaustion (job, family, school, organizational responsibilities.)
3) The comments didn't hurt anyone and may have lit a fire under a fanbase or two. The negative may turn into a positive for some other schools. Curt being "bad cop" may end up giving Miami, OU, or UA an attendance "pop." Interesting thought, no?

Curt's Comment
Did anyone else notice that the comment, placed at the end of the article, seemed to have no connection to the article itself, and appeared to just pop up out of nowhere. There was nothing to say what context the statement was made in.
This really struck me as being rather irresponsible on the part of the writer to insert a statement like that without anything to explain it's sentiment.
We lost the game. We lost our priviledge to be in the final game. Why would Curt or anyone take a stab at the MAC for us being out of the tournament. He wouldn't. But that's how the article comes across.
Now, I wouldn't be surprised if what he was talking about was the NCAA only putting in one MAC team into the tournament, and therefore losing out a huge opportunity to capitalize from our fan base.
But, instead....the comment hangs out there for people to think that Curt was a sore loser. He's not.

I agree. Was it out of line? I've heard much worse. I wasn't in the post game interview so I don't know what questions were asked.bgwomenbbfan wrote:I love the candor of the statement. He is always so classy and almost always takes the high road. Good to see him speak from his heart for once.
Coach Miller is a class act...it wasn't in his character to say this but after a very difficult loss in double OT, I can see how it could happen. I wasn't going to say anything about the officiating for the OU game but BO, Class of 61 and others know it wasn't "BG friendly". There were numerous traveling violations on OU that were never called and some very questionable non calls as our players were getting mugged...that one tall official with the black hair was the worst. I honestly didn't know what game he was watching half the time.
I don't want to sound like a whiner so I'll stop that rant now. In the end, we had our chances to win and it didn't happen.
I won't worry about it....chances are good BG will be back in the title game very soon.

Interesting hypothesis and very sound reasoning. I re-read the article and you hit it dead on. The comment has zero basis. It's up to the reader to presume Curt's intents.WBBFAN wrote: We lost the game. We lost our priviledge to be in the final game. Clarification in sorely needed in this.
