Stan Joplin was just fired as Rocket head coach. Discuss amongst yourselves.
Musta been the gangsta ball.

This is a classic example of an AD looking to put their own personal stamp on the program. Division I AD's make their reputations on fundraising and high profile coaching hires.
O'Brien had Amstutz, Joplin and Ehlen already in place when he arrived. He now has the opportunity to bring his own people in on the basketball side and attempt to drum up some renewed enthusiam for the programs in the community in conjunction with the arena renovations.

I think there were other factors but I think you hit the major ones squarely in the noggin, JF.JoeFalcon wrote:This is a classic example of an AD looking to put their own personal stamp on the program. Division I AD's make their reputations on fundraising and high profile coaching hires.

I'm not an insider in terms of recruiting but, yeah, lots of them, including Buford, Roberts and others (I don't think he went for Floydcowboyjoe wrote:Zac Taylor and Keith Triplett...any more in the last "umpteen" years?
I don't recall Dakich getting very many either (Almanson, Floyd as a transfer)- sometimes kids don't want to stay around the hometown.

I can't believe Pat Kennedy is still a head coach.
