On my quick notes from the Selection Show, I can't believe a couple of the teams that got in, along with the fact that UConn and Rutgers are stuck in the same region. I don't care what anyone says, this selection committee gave out some very undeserving bids in my opinion. Georgia Tech is a team that in my opinion doesn't deserve a bid, along with Temple. The Big 12 gets 8 of the 12 teams in the tournament, that is incredible. The Big East also got 8 teams in. I don't even think we got the biggest shaft here. I know TCU didn't get a bid, and I am not sure that I saw UWGB's name called. UWGB was 26-5, 17-1 in the conference. I know it's the Horizon, but that is ridiculous. Mid Tenn got in also, and they played in a bad Sun Belt conference. They were 21-11, 14-4 in conference. I will get a better critique of the brackets after they are put online. These are just some things that I jotted down and can remember. I am not saying that we are the biggest loser here, but I really think that a couple of schools in top conferences got too much of a break.
I just love the disclaimer the studio hosts drop, be it men's or women's... "the selection committee did a tremendous job, but...." then bitch about some 15-14, 7-9 major school that didn't get in.

Those three idiots that did the show tonight were some of the most smug, idiotic analysts I have ever seen break down a sport. I also love how a quarter of the show is dedicated to talking about the #1 seeds, who are probably the only ones that most viewers are familiar with, while skipping over every other school almost entirely.TG1996 wrote:I just love the disclaimer the studio hosts drop, be it men's or women's... It really is too bad that the women's game has been dominated by 5-6 schools for so long. There are so many more interesting and engaging stories in women's hoops outside of these perennial favorites, but it is almost as if no other schools exist outside of them for ESPN. I respect the hell out of Pat Summit, but I don't think time in an hour long show like this one - even though it was only about 20 seconds - to some petty little feud between her and Geno Auriemma. Who really gives a sh*t?

I agree. Its getting tiring seeing the same ole #1 seeds, MD, NC, UConn and Tenn. Seems its the same ole four teams for the past 4-5 years. Thats why I was really pulling for Rutgers last year vs Tenn.Bleeding Orange wrote:Those three idiots that did the show tonight were some of the most smug, idiotic analysts I have ever seen break down a sport. Look, when you talk about number one seeds, I have no real problem with who got them. I do think that Stanford should have been the 1 and Maryland the 2, but that happens. What I didn't like about the selection show itself was the focus on the certain teams, and then barely breaking down any of the other slots. That was stupid. But when you look at the women's game, there are a couple of handfuls of teams that are dominant and are going to contend for the National Championship every year, and then there are the rest. Things are starting to get a little better the last few years with some mid majors making runs in the tournaments, but it is going to take a little longer before we see a shift. When you go into a home and recruit a kid, they have the same teams on the top of their list. I think you will see a shift at some point where Stanford, USC, Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Rutgers, Texas A&M, UConn, Tennessee, LSU, and UNC fighting for the top. I really like what Stanford, USC and Baylor have done recruiting for the next couple of years. Texas will take over where Duke was now that Gail is at UT and has more money to recruit. She will be playing for a NC in the next few years. She is already getting some great committments. UConn, LSU and Tennessee will be good as long the legends of coaching are there.

Well said, HF. You too, BO, TG and others. It is another instance of ESPN pushing the favorites and barely mentioning other teams. I understand how good TN, UConn and the likes are but they aren't the ONLY women's teams in the country.HoustonFalcon wrote:Look, when you talk about number one seeds, I have no real problem with who got them. I watched hoping against hope knowing full well we weren't gonna get an at large. J4H hit it dead on...1-4 vs RPI Top 100 did us in.
