CBI: TBA, but I've gotta believe either one or two of the trio of Ohio, Western Michigan or Miami could end up in the mix.
Kent State vs. UNLV

The rumor is that OU is going to be in the CBI.

Didn't Akron play Florida State in the NIT last year as well?

Gotta love a 13-18 team like Cincinnati being invited and accepting a spot in a post-season tournament. It's good for the kids at UC I guess, but come on, five games under .500 and you get a bid for a post-season tournament? I know you can have teams with losing records in the NCAA Tournament, but that's because they won their conference tournament. I'll admit, there are some decent teams in the CBI, but UC being invited with this record just makes this thing seem even more strange to me.

Yeah, way to build credibility for your tournament right off the bat. This is looking like the XFL of college basketball tournaments. Maybe someone from Cincinnati show up to the game with "He Hate Me" on the back of their jersey.

Enough people will show up thinking it has something to do with CSI that they'll probably break even.

Why not BG then? We finished 13-17 and beat Cincy....this is ridiculous.

Because we won't bring any money to their tournament, and Cincy will.

Yeah it hurts the credibility of their tourney, I suppose, but what credibility did it really ever have? It is no secret that the NIT & CBI are purely to make some additional money, and that's it. It's not about the next best teams, it's not about creating good matchups, it's not about putting a good product on the court. It's about money, period. Cincy will bring them more money than BG, but I doubt it will still be much. People just don't care about these tournaments, and there really isn't any reason why they should.

Much like the bowl games these tourneys are all about money. Getting left out of the NCAA when you deserve it is cause for complaint because it's supposed to be about fairness & equity in crowning a champion. Getting left out of these tourneys doesn't mean much because they don't live under that pretense.

I don't think Cincy should be there either, but apparently their alumni will buy some tickets? I doubt it will be many, but whatever...

Hammb...that was sarcasm. BG doesn't belong in any post season Tourney this year and neither does UC.

Agreed. On merits of a season alone, I'd agree that BG is more deserving than Cincy, but these tournaments are just about money.

I have a hard time getting excited for it even when BG has been in the NIT.

I'm generally not excited for it, either. The exception in my opinion, though, is when a team like our women have a shot to get into. With a team as young as BG, any experience in a post-season tournament will be absolutely invaluable for them in the next three years, and I imagine that there are a lot of men's and women's teams out there that view the NIT, and maybe the CBI (really have no idea WTF that is), in the same light.

On a related note, I did see an interview with VT's head coach last night that was pretty interesting. Even though he was mostly just bitching and moaning about not getting into the NCAA's, he did bring up the question of whether or not it may be time to expand the tournament field. At first I thought he was insane, but then he pointed to football and how the NCAA has allowed the bowl season to expand in order to "reward" more student athletes, and he asked what makes basketball players so different. I'm not sure how much I agree with him, but I did think it was an interesting thought.

I've always thought of the NIT as a pointless, bogus tournament. It's not merit based, and it's a farce to say that playing in it counts as playing in the post-season. Honestly, I've never payed attention to it, even when BG has participated. I think the guys are better off calling it a year and getting back to class.

A better idea for the MAC would be to pick a rival conference and pair off the teams for a series of games.

Ohio beat Brown 80-74 in the CBI tonight. I think this is the MAC's first post-season win since Akron's win over Temple in 2006. OU also becomes the fourth team in the MAC to hit the 20-win plateau this season.
GO BG!!!
