" I didn't notice any refs."
That was Coach Miller's comment on a question by a reporter at the post-game press conference on the officiating. Me and my group stayed after the game to see the team come out and watched the Golds, Prochaska, Miller and Kate press conference on the Breslin's video board. A pretty funny and awesome comment if I may say so which speaks volumes with saying too much.
It was just our luck too as the 2 of the refs were refs in several of our home games this year and both known for some "peculiar" calls. One was especially bizzare as Breske had inside position on a rebound , DeHann went over the back of Breske and Breske hence gets called the for the bs foul. There were numerous others. Although they didn't make or break the game for us by any stretch they still hurt us in key situations when we were trying to get some momentum back. Even a MSU fan sitting next to me remarked at the terrible inconsistency of the refs were.

It also seemed liked MSU could do anything when handling the ball and not get a travel called on them.
There was also an instant in the 1st half where a foul was called on Lindsey when an MSU player went up for a lay-up, but Lindsey was no where near the play. Thats not as bad as Ball State when Kate got a foul called on her when she was on the bench, but still

Quick fact: BG has NEVER won a poorly officiated game. Ever. In any sport.
Now then.... Congrats to the Falcons on the season. Thanks to Kate and Whitney for being part of the last four years, and, quite obviously, showing this outstanding group of freshmen what BG Women's Basketball is all about. The torch is yours, now kick some AZZ with it.

It will be interesting to note who is her backup as I don't know if we bring in another true pg. Slagle may be able to run the point as well but could be more of a 2 guard.cph2133 wrote:With Nikki McCoy being eligible next year, YIKES! And I have answer to my own question.

Had to dig deep into the thread archives to find it. I suddenly remembered some new pg from Michigan that had signed but couldn't remember her name. So we got 4 officially coming in with 6'3 post Maribeth Geise, 5'9 Slagle, 5'11 McCoy and this McGowen girl. I will try to find out some more info on our incoming freshman.

We're lucky if she even wants to play for us. We had some classless comments coming from our fans in the section I was in at the end of that game. Nikki was sitting in the row right in front of me with a stunned looked on her face for some of them. It just pisses me off to see a fan-base cheer so much when a teams doing so good and then do an immediate 180 when things go wrong. Sure yelling at the refs is fine, but things towards our own players is not called for.cph2133 wrote: With Nikki McCoy being eligible next year, YIKES! OK SOMEBODY CLUE ME IN on this. I've already been called down by Coach Roos on our fans yelling @ Miami players & she receiving an e-mail from somebody @ Miami about her fans behavior. I'm not going through that again!!!!!!!!!! It didn't feel good @ all.
They played as well as they could in that given game. PLEASE look back @ the whole season & get a clue of how well this group of women did. Back off the microscope. Put your sneaks on & play against them. I dare you!!!!
Not that I am one of the people calling individual players out like some, but, I have played against them, and WOW!hockeysue wrote:Put your sneaks on & play against them. I dare you!!!!

Why didn't you go introduce yourself to them? And then ask where they were from and urge them to go back to their cave and STAY THERE.Metz wrote:We're lucky if she even wants to play for us. I had one of those at the BG-Dayton game
It reminds me why I have TWO tickets to the games. For the playoff, I only got a single ticket and had some doofus two seats away. You know the type, yelling C'mon girls, in a mean tone of voice, like do this or else and bitching about the refs, and the inability to finish the layups after being fouled. (A lot of the 1st half shots were weak to the basket).
I went over to Fran Voll and suggested that I ddin't need to yell a single thing this game because I had my designated yeller who might become a problem before the end of the game.
I WILL yell at the refs, I might yell at the coach, but I seldom yell at a player in a negative manner. They're playing way better than I could. Geeze, until they start yelling at me in my job, I think I'll keep it that way.
The point of March Sadness is that only one team is going to win. The fact that your team is there is good enough. Sure I'd like to see our team in the Elite 8, but seeing them in the second round of the WNIT vs One and Done in the NCAA was "PRICELESS". If the stars line up right and this current team continues to grow, I think in two years we'll all be laughing about this season, because we'll be celebrating our Elite 8 entry, but that doesn't take anything away from this season.

I think she'll be fine. She's sure to have witnessed a LOT of love for the team and the program from the fans to the point where 1 isolated incident wouldn't scar her too much. My more immediate concern regarding Nikki is how much the chemistry that was built this season will change with her addition into the lineup. She's a proven big time MAC player but she's a wing and I think our returning starters at that position are pretty priceless. Will she be ok with coming off the bench?Metz wrote:We're lucky if she even wants to play for us. We had some classless comments coming from our fans in the section I was in at the end of that game. Geez....Nikki and Jen coming off the bench. How many other schools have that much fire power coming off the bench? Is it November yet?
