Western Kentucky would be a great fit for the MAC

OFF TOPIC --
The move to the new stadium has been less than successful, and the Rhino's fan base eroded.
The problems are the perceived safety of the neighborhood, lack of close parking, and terrible concessions (food quality and service). Above that, it appears that Donner is a poor manager at best or a crook at worst. Now that a new owner has taken over, the hope is the Rhinos will start turning this around. He's saying the right things.
What's more disconcerting than the Rhinos is that Donner has done much of the same to the Amerks. They are behind on payments to the city and league, have given up the Buffalo affiliation. A total mess.
Red Wings on the other hand are doing fine.

Except the cost of flying compared to the bus trips. It is not like money is being made from the sports program.
Ever try to fly to Bowling Green, Kentucky?

Agreed regarding the travel. BG is within 3 hours of the majority of the MAC schools - that is very reasonable compared to most other conferences. I couldn't imagine being spread out like CUSA.redskins4ever wrote:I think the MAC has it pretty easy when compared to some conferences... Across the board, we haven't been much better than "Fuffalo". The girls programs were very successful last year, but we have finished in the middle of the pack on average over the last 5-6 years in the MAC women's all sports standings (forget the name of the trophy). Guys have averaged last or second to last.bgsufalcon24 wrote: coughFuffalocough

I think there is a commitment on the part of the AD to improve the onfield performance and I think we will get there; however, to call out Buffalo when we haven't been much better is not necessary.

I agree 01, looks like someone needs a reminder of what happened the last time us and Buffalo met in a men's sport. I was there and don't want to be reminded of it.BGGrad01 wrote:Across the board, we haven't been much better than "Fuffalo". So they beat us once in men's basketball. Good for them. Just for the record I don't remember our victory against them at AA being close either. Oh yeah, how did their women and their overrated football team do against us? They got crushed, just like they do every stinking year. And I don't want to hear about how our 2006 game at the Doyt was close. Close doesn't count. Until they actually beat us, Buffalo sucks.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:I agree 01, looks like someone needs a reminder of what happened the last time us and Buffalo met in a men's sport. How did their hockey team do against us? Oh wait...
On another level, if its true that our all-sports numbers are bad, then it must be our non-revenue sports bringing us down. Our football team has been almost perennially good since 2001 (save 2006), women's basketball has been kicking complete azz, and some other teams like softball, soccer, and volleyball have won MAC titles and/or been at the top of the conference the last few years. Men's basketball is really the only revenue producing team that has struggled this decade. You could say hockey has struggled as well, but since Fuffalo doesn't even have a team that's not really a point of discussion here.

Jeez, dude... did Buffalo kick your puppy or something?

Umm, I seem to remember an ~8 hour affair at DLP stadium that went into multiple overtimes with good old Fuffalo fairly recently. Yeah, it's not like it's an every year thing, but to say we "crush" them every year is a bit of a stretch.bgsufalcon24 wrote:... how did their women and their overrated football team do against us? Don't forget they also essentially finished in a 3-way tie for the East championship this year. Yeah, it's fun to talk smack about Buffalo, but with the way they looked this year, I wouldn't put it past them to put together a pretty decent season next year, too.

Debating how Buffalo has done on the field is missing the point, largely.
We are better for being in a league with an institution like that. It's a flagship in New York, located in a big market. It was a great add.
But if you insist on debating what they are doing on the field, they were a bucket away from winning the MAC tournament a couple years ago, and they are coming off their best football season yet.
There are MAC programs that trouble me. Buffalo isn't one of them. I love having them in our league.

I would think that this would be the consensus among the conference presidents and coaches.Schadenfreude wrote:. . . There are MAC programs that trouble me. Buffalo isn't one of them. I love having them in our league.
Also, once the Bills leave for Toronto, UB will be the biggest game in town.

Just to turn the discussion in a new direction, which MAC programs are ones that trouble you Schad? I'm interested to know.Schadenfreude wrote: There are MAC programs that trouble me. Buffalo isn't one of them. I love having them in our league.
