NIU's new coach to use public humiliation

Post by 1987alum »

Apologies if this has been discussed, but NIU's new football coach has introduced a few new wrinkles to the Huskie regime.

To wit ...
In Kill's world, you get points for winning. For earning good grades. For doing "the right things."

But Huskies who skip class, show up late for team meetings or otherwise fail to live up to Kill's standards? The coach lends them a yellow shirt for a week or two that they must wear throughout the football complex.

"It says in pink letters, 'I LET MY TEAM DOWN,' " said redshirt freshman quarterback DeMarcus Grady.

"That's something they don't want to be in," Kill said.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

When he screws up a game, is he going to wear one?

I like it...I wish a lot more coaches would do things like this, especially in the bigger programs such as the Big ElevTen, SEC and whatnot...I think we would see a drastic improvement in many aspects of the game, on and off the field. I think something like this, even though it is so simple, could affect graduation rates. Kudos to Coach Kill.

And not nearly as cool as running kids off the program that couldn't do more windsprints after their fourth trip to the puke can...

I'm with Vdub. I like it. Keeps kids accountable for actions that are detrimental to the team...and themselves. Simple, and I bet it will be effective.
The FSU's and Miami's of the world should think about adopting something like this. I liked what JoePa did with making the team clean the stadium after home games. I know PSU has had a few issues with players recently, but at least Paterno lets his kids know that there will be consequences. None of this crap like suspending a kid for one half of a game against Podunk U. after he commits a felony.

They should have one for the real bad stuff that says "My behavior is an embarrassment to this University" that they must wear everywhere!

You're from San Francisco...you should know that there's the chance it's both.

Ummmmmmm, we're talking about college football players. Showboaty and Juvenile are things they know and appreciate.

I like it, personally.
