Just Wondering

I was just wondering about how Eric Marschall will fit into our system next year? I have not seen him play before and really do not know what kind of player he is. Can he help us next year? I know DD ran a motion offense and Orr runs more pick and roll and set plays. Can any fellow Falcon fans(try saying that three times fast

let me know something about this subject.

Personally, I think Eric will be a huge help next year. He will add depth on our front line. The downside is that he is probably somewhat of a liability on the defensive end of the floor and has racked up a lot of fouls in the past. However, offensively I feel that he has some pretty good post moves and can score. I think Eric will be fine and maybe with a little coaching he can improve on the defensive end much like OP did throughout the year. I really hope he can stay injury free this upcoming year.

I'm not trying to dog on Marc Larson, but if it were me, I'd rather have Eric out there than Marc.

I will worry about this when I see Eric on the court. I don't mean that to sound like I don't like Marschall. It's just that when ever I have seen stories about next season, it has said "IF" Marschall can return from two (or is it three) surgeries... Have not seen any statement about actually expecting him to be there.

That's my thoughts as well. While I would love to see him out there next year for us, I'm beginning to wonder if he will even be able to play again from the articles I have read. I hope we do see him next season however.

My 2 cents. Based on his freshman and some sophmore play I would say that Erik has the talent to be an above average 4 in the MAC. I don't think he will make any all MAC teams (ala Miller and Knight), but he has the potential to be very solid (again based on the limited play we have seen). Good scoring and rebounding, but did have a tendency to get into foul trouble, as someone mentioned, but that seemed to improve from his freshman to sophmore year, a little anyway.

That said he would be a great help next year. Finding him minutes with Miller, Knight, Polk and Larson would be a nice problem to have. However, as has also been said, health is very likely to be an issue. In summary: he would be great if he can stay on the court.

Erik is actually more suited to be a 3 based on what I have observed of his play from his high school days. He can handle the ball, has some range to his shot and (at least he used to) has some quickness.

I think part of his propensity to foul comes from having to guard guys who are legitimate low post players. As I mentioned above, spending all day in the paint isn't his forte!

It will be interesting to see how he fits into this team, if his body can make a recovery from this lost season.

Offensively I could see Erik as a 3 man. He won't be beating a ton of people off the dribble, but I think he does have some range on his shot (out to 10-12 feet at least).

My problem is that I don't think he'd be even close to able to guard any of the athletic 3s he'd be going against. Sure his fouls might go down, but that'd be largely because he wasn't close enough to foul his man.

EM showed flashes of brilliance and a sophomore, but he had big problems staying in games. Although he's a smart enough player overall, he tends to commit a lot of stupid fouls.

I see EM at the 4, 3, or 5 spots depending on the situation. He has great post moves inside and has a nose for rebounds. He is a decent leaper and runs well for his size.

He did not shoot from the outside often, but does seem to have a decent stroke. Hopefully he's been developing his outside shooting while being out.

His defensive liabilities have been exaggerated, and he has the athleticism to learn to be a good defender if he focuses on it.

Overall, I differ a bit with other posters on EM. If he returns fully recovered, than I believe that he's every bit as good as Nate Miller (who actually was better last year than this year).

I see us starting 3 forwards and 2 guards next year: Jak, Mot, Miller, Knight, and Marcshall.
