Maybe I'm being optimistic about the conference this year, but I really feel like, for the most part, the conference will be better top to bottom. I initially was thinking NIU may take a step back, but the new coach is bringing in the WVU offense, and that can be a way to turn around an offense fast if its executed well, so NIU could easily be better in a hurry. EMU was already decent on defense and they should get better, and their offense sure came on strong toward the end of the season and should keep improving. Temple will keep getting better. Toledo will surely be better because their defense can't get worse, and their running attack should be fine even without Parmele. Buffalo is one team, though, that I think was a one time wonder and will be Buffalo again next year. If we have an overlook week, I woudn't mind it being against Buffalo, but I don't think that will happen because it will be senior night.bgsufalcon24 wrote:Hopefully that overlook week(s) will come against EMU or Buffalo, we'll win the game regardless. We pretty much took EMU for granted last year and got away with it. I'd throw NIU in that category too, but after what happened there in February, that team will on a mission this fall.Strouse wrote:Hopefully Brandon and the rest of the guys don't overlook anyone this year, but I'm sure that will happen at least once.tekekini wrote:Anyways you ave your opinion and I have mine. I have respectfuly given my opinion and stayed on the topic that the thread had laid out. I still don't get why everyone is taking it so personally. I am just one man with one opinion. I wasn't trying to rile everyone up just contributing to the discussion.

It must be so much more difficult to market a program to recruits when seasons vacillate between good and poor seasons. So, I would like to see BG repeat last year's regular season, get another Bowl game at least, and then make a regular habit of it. MACC? Sure, but it is just one game, and you have to get to that door one game at a time before you can think about knocking on it.
Cutting out repeats of last year's baffling losses alone would probably make up for the couple of bare knuckle games we are looking down the barrel at this season, but there are always going to be surprises elsewhere. Although success in college football probably depends on someone else's good or bad luck for most of us, I feel good about 2008.

I laughed out loud on that one.Redwingtom wrote:We will only win three games, but one of them will be at the Glass Bowl?tekekini wrote:Sorry, just being honest but I see BG going 3-9. I see your wins as being against EMU, NIU and UT.
I don't think you beat Wyoming, PITT, Boise or Minnesota.

Book it. Bet the farm. UT will be horrible. BG wins at UT.
Man, I sure hope they'll be horrible, but I feel like they may be the most improved team in the conference next year, kind of like we were this year. Their offense will be stellar, even though they have losses at RB and tackle, and their defense can't possibly be worse. I just still keep in mind that we faced a severely weakened Toledo team this past November. Without Opelt, their offense just isn't the same. We still would have beaten them had he been playing, but it would have probably been a much closer game.tekekini wrote:

Alright, time for me to lay down the law on what I think will happen to the rest of the East Division this year. I tend to agree with MarkL on a lot of things, but not all of them.
Akron - I really think the Zips are going to be terrible. They have no QB, their best offensive player left what was a crappy O already, and their defense really isn't anything special either. They could be headed for the cellar of the division. Prediction - 7th place East
Kent State - This team is hard to read. Both of their offensive playmakers are back, so they'll keep rushing the ball well. At some point though, you have to pass to win in the MAC, unless your defense is very good. Kent's D isn't horrible, but it isn't stellar either. I think the flashes stay mediocre. Prediction - 5th place East
Miami - This team has a strong defense. Where they have trouble is that their OL isn't very good, which puts pressure on the QB and WRs to make quick plays and decisions. I think the Redhawks are good enough to be a strong player in the MAC this season anyway though because of how strong their D is. Prediction - 3rd place East
Buffalo - Like MarkL said, this team was pretty much a fluke a year ago, and they were only 5-7. I refuse to see what the fuss is all about. Their offense is decent and their QB is pretty good, but they struggle to run the ball at times and their defense is crap. Until those things change, they aren't going anywhere. Prediction - 6th place East
Ohio - This is a tough team to predict also, because their offensive system is much different than the rest of the conference. Despite the loss of McRae, I think they'll still be able to run it well, and if their new QB is a dual threat that can throw, this team will be tough. Ultimately I think they are just a few pieces away from serious contention. Prediction - 4th place East
Temple - These guys will be tough. Their D is already one of the conference's best, and if the O can stay on the field, particularly their QB DiMichele, they will make a lot of noise this year. They had the best recruiting class in the MAC by far this past year, and if they have any instant contributors they will be even tougher to beat. Prediction - 2nd place East
Yeah, laugh all you want about Temple. They're improving pretty quickly. I'm very glad we drew NIU instead of them this season, that trip to Phildelphia would be a tough one.

i would say the conference as a whole is better this season than last. we will see the return of Miami this year, folks are selling them short. i will also say that in the end conference results (some one has to loose these games folks) will not be indicitive of poor teams or bad play.
i see us beating Minn at home and landing in about the same spot as last season or finally getting a MACC.
