Urban Meyer fibs again...

Post by BelieveNBG »

Meyer said he hadn't heard about Willingham's departure from Notre Dame until he was asked about it by The Associated Press on Tuesday.

If this was so true, why did Bob Davie just mention how when he talked to Urban over the "weekend" about looking at the previous coaches, how they had been successful, and how they couldn't turn ND around. More was said, but basically..."weekend" comes before Tuesday.

just because Davie talked to Meyer over the weekend doesn't mean he (or anyone) knew that Willingham got fired. Yes, its kind of curious why the topic would be brought up, especially with Florida seemingly in the forefront of "big jobs" out there, but two college football coaches (or former coach, at least) talking about a common topic is no biggie.

of course this comment is more of the Urbie we know and love:
"I have great respect for that university. That's the reason
it's in my contract," Meyer said after Tuesday's practice. "I
think a lot of people look into it more than what it is. I'm sure
that this is going to spark a lot of discussion, but I'm just
trying to get a team ready to play in a bowl game."

Com'on...Bob Davie would not be contacting Urban Meyer to discuss ND, unless somebody knew something was happening. This would not have been a "common topic", unless there was news to discuss. I truly believe that Willingham was only fired this year, because Urban was available now and if they screwed around another year, Florida would have Urban and ND would lose out.

Time will tell.

Urban's a liar, yes.
He's done it more than twice.. lied to BG.. told Chris Fowler on GameDay a couple week ago he wasn't leaving Utah.. and now this.
But he's a great coach.. and got our program where it is today.

He got our program along the road to where it is today. Gregg Brandon brought us the rest of the way.

I am also not sold on Gregg Brandon as a head coach. . .

Not being negative, just want to wait and see. .. . (a win at either NIU or Tu would have swayed me. .. )

I totally agree with this statement.

And I agree with Flip about Coach Brandon getting us where we are today. Meyer came in and turned things around...but Brandon is the one who has us in 2 consecutive bowl games. Meyer also lost at NIU and UT in 2002.

I am, I think a lot of us our spoiled now with what meyer did and what he is doing now. We seem to have inflated perception of how great our coach should be. For 125,000 GB is a hell of a steal. There is no one better for that little of money.

GB really pisses the Rockette faithful off. That alone is worth at least 200k per year.

Soooo true...I forgot about that. They specifically asked if he was considering other interests or if he would leave and instead of saying the typical no comment (smart thing to do), Urban said no...he would not be leaving Utah. They put him on the spot on National TV and he felt compelled to answer. I won't call him on this one yet...but time will tell.

Geez!!! will he ever learn...somtimes mums the word.

Sorry to stray a bit off topic, but I found this interesting and didn't want to open up yet another Urban Meyer thread.

www.fireurbanmeyer.com

A Florida alum has this site up as a bit of a long term prevention plan, in the event that Meyer becomes their head coach... wanting to avoid the fireronzook.com hoopla again.

Yeah, but Brandon has won with Meyer's recruits which quite frankly Noah Smith could have coached to similar results. . .

I'll give him Anthony Turner and his initial rah-rah attitude which has grown tiresome (how long till we get an email/letter from Brandon telling us to "Crank It Up" and buy tickets?)

Until he wins a big game, that means something in the MAC, I will not put all of my faith in him.

I was thinking the other day about our first two seasons under GB's. Blackney and Brandon both got to bowl games in their first two seasons, but Blackney's teams won clutch road games and dominated when it counted. I am not by any means angry with the job Brandon does or is doing, but as I said I am just not fully sold.

DD, I think that's a fair assessment.
