Golly gee, I just love discussion forums.........reveling in the full human experience (minus the face to face): people who think, folks who react, individuals who do neither...........
Some readers may notice that I said in my original post that there was a question "that one might ask if they were looking at the situation from the OUTSIDE (i.e. potential recruits and their families)............."
I'm not accusing. I'm not implying. I'm not even close to being a "one" who might wonder. I would be a person on the INSIDE. (notice the capital letters - AGAIN.) I'm a 1982 BG grad and a huge fan and supporter......
I was only making an observation. Yes, it was somewhat coy - but it was triggered by an earlier post in the thread where someone said the situation "makes you wonder"......... and I thought to myself: "What might folks OUTSIDE the BG World wonder?" That's all...........
(And to think that was my FIRST-ever post in this forum!)

Yeah thats what I remember hearing as well, you don't leave a program when she did unless its a personal issueThe Niz wrote:I knew Jazz, she did not leave b/c of any racial dispute. I'm not sure how much liberty there is to discuss her situation so I will leave it at this: there was a personal tragedy and she felt the need to attend to it.

Miller said Hooten is looking to transfer to programs in larger conferences, including the Big Ten, Big East, and Atlantic 10.
"Bianca has goals of playing in the WNBA and is very vocal about her goals," Miller said.
Look, I thought Hooten had a pretty good finish to her first year and was going to improve but the WNBA? Wow.
Anyway, best of luck to both....

this is most certainly not a dig on our program, but if Hooten couldn't hardly play here, what makes her have any kind of belief that she will play at a larger conference? I mean I know we are on par as far as talent and coaching with the major conference teams, but honestly!?!?! She hardly played for a MAC team... A10 would be her best bet, cause she wouldn't get any PT at a larger school...

That's the line of thinking I had...we have a GREAT mid major program. Does she think LSU, UConn or TN is gonna come calling? I have a hard time believing her aspirations for the WNBA are realistic.

FF, tiz and Peregrinner...thanks for the props, and good memory noting the McKenzie transfer. Jack Carle had a great quote from Curt in the Sentinel that should put the issue to bed: "Crystal is the first starter in my 18-year career to request a release from the Division I teams I have been associated with."

jburket: I thought the discussion prompted by your post was exceedingly fair and civil. There was some humor, some analysis and no personal attacks, a rare trifecta not always seen on other boards. You sound like a loyal fan and it would be unfortunate to have this little brouhaha deter you from making future contributions.

This is what I had feared. It also completely explains away any thoughts about Miller having problems with black players. Apparently Murdaugh wasn't as comfortable as she had hoped and wants to transfer to a school where she feels more comfortable in. Its unfortunate but what can you do.
As for Bianca, well that was a little more surprising. She has talent but quite raw at this point and has a long way to go to be WNBA material even in 3 more years. How does she think she's going to go to a B10, Big East schools and jump into a starting lineup and dominate enough to warrent a WNBA drafting by her sr. year? I just don't see it and I guess we've found our female Ron Lewis for sure.
As for what to do with the 2 extra schollies , I say if we can't get 1 really good transfer player or 2 , its better to just hold on to them till '09 where Miller believes that class has some studs to be had. It would be nice though to get maybe 1 good transfer and maybe hold on to 1. Either way we're good to go. I don't see this holding us back any. It'll just mean possibly more time for Slagle , McGowan and maybe even Giese as we shuffle players around.

I'm a little surprised Murdaugh sites her desire of attending an historically black university as her reason for leaving . If I remember correctly ,she went to high school in Dublin, a community that is probably 90% white. So I doubt if Bowling Green was " culture shock" Regardless, she is a young adult making decisions for her own reasons and we all wish her luck.

I don't think culture shock is the right idea. I think it was the opposite. She probably wanted to be a little further away from the Dublin style community and BG really doesn't offer much there. For goodness' sake no one take this as a racial remark please.

All the typing isn't going to change the fact that people change their minds & change their choices. We can speculate and banter about what, why, how forever. Only the people making the decisions & living with them can have all the information. Just support the coaching staff & the players who remain & will enter this fall. All programs have people leave. We just notice it more because the Women's Basketball coaches, staff and team have made us part of the family. Therefore we feel entitled to an explanation when one doesn't necessarily need to be given. They have ended the relationship to BG & all need to go on. Find people who will be Falcons as long as we want them to be. Love is giving people the freedom to be the way they are, not trying to make them the way you want. We have a love for the program & want everyone associated with it to love it too.
Best of luck to Bianca & Crystal I hope they find what they're seeking.
