i've been hearing a lot of people talking about how we don't beat teams with a winning record. Here's the thing... We play in a stacked div. in BG UT and NIU thus the other teams will have losing records because those 3 teams beat down on the others. You don't have much of a say in your cross over games so you could play an OHIO and U BUFF in the same year. We have started to go out and play stronger OOC games like OU OSU PURDUE and such so those are probably going to be loses face it. Look at last year we beat UT NIU#12 at the time and Purdue #19 at the time so we can beat teams with a good record. This year we fell shour at UT and got beat down by a NIU team the week after a tragic death in the team. I don't like it when people diss our record and teams we play because it is more than what it seems. NIU only beat us and akron this year had UT lost to us they beat NIU, the way our seasons pan out the team that loses and is not the west champ isn't going to have quality wins period.

It will only be more than what it seem when it's not true anymore.
Sure we have won big games on the road and against quality teams, but when the chips are down we haven't been able to come up with a big win... especially the last two years.. NIU and UT this year.. Miami twice last year

yeah i know those were not fun but those are the only games we get so saying we lose to every good team just isn't true we beat them last year and lost to a really really good miami team. all i'm saying is that people pick us apart and its not like we play in the SEC not every game is a big game we just lost this year twice on the road to two good teams that are going bowling not to bad in my book. it happens next year we get them at home.

And NIU and UT the year before that.

As I posted elsewhere, the Meyer/Brandon era has only one win on the road against a team with a winning record, and that was Purdue. No reason to be so defensive about it. Its something we have to fix, and I have confidence we can.

Toledo, by the way, wins on the road when they need to.

You're missing the point bacn.. losing to the "really good teams" in our conference IS the problem.
Saying "those are the only games we get" doesn't make the fact that we lose them any less important.
Sure, we can be happy where we are, but also must look at what challenges still face us.

ohhh i know it sucks to be on the bad end of those games... i'm just trying to point out to all those that post that we don't beat good teams that had we won at niu and ut they would be where we are so watch out next year when they play us here cause they'll be where we are this year. I'm just trying to defend that point that any one of the three teams can be put in our position this year. I think we are a good team and no one is going to tell me otherwise.

For God's sake bacn.. I'm not disputing the fact that you love our falcons and yes, we are a good team. But we are not yet a great team.. and it's the losses you point out earlier in the thread that prevent us from being a great team. We also shouldn't have to wait for a year where the tough teams come to our house - if you're a great team, it doesn't matter who or where you play.

I just wanted to put a little different spin on things...Save for two home losses vs. Miami in the last 4 years, we havn't lost any big games at home...which you could say that the other teams in the MAC are having problems winning big games on the road too.

Disclaimer: No, I have done no research into this, other than personal experience. I'm not trying to say that we don't have room for improvment as a team, we do. This was just my feble attempt to "think outside the box".

Actually, you're spot on....Miami is the ONLY team that has beat us at home over the past four years.

I think it's stretching it to say that UT wins on the road when they need to . They needed to win at the Doyt last year...and they lost. They needed to win at Ball State last year and they lost.

They seem to win one that they shouldn't every other year or so. That's more than us, but it's not like they're out there setting some unachieveable standard. We'll get there... probably not next year because we should have NIU and UT at home (even if we do move I want them both at the Doyt) but we'll get there...

UT did not, "need" to win at Ball State last year. If you knew anythig about how things work, you would know the difference. Since we played you guys for the West title even with that loss, it was not a "need" to win situation. For your information:

2001
vs. #18 Marshall (Win)
2002
at #23 Pitt (Loss)
at #24 Marshall (Loss)
2003
vs. #11 Pitt (Win)
vs. #21 Northern Illinois (Win)
at BGSU #25 (loss)
2004
at #23 Minnesota (Loss)
at #22 Northern Illinois (Win)
vs. #24 BGSU (Win)

Toledo vs. Ranked Opponents since 2001 (5-4)

BGSU: Winless !!!

Learn how to win the Big One more than just once, and we can talk!

ummmm....no. We were victorious over NIU and Purdue last year. They were both ranked at the time. You did need to win at BSU because you need to win every game possible when you're facing a trip to the Doyt. A trip to the Doyt is an automatic "L" for any team coached by Chris Farley.

Why pick 2001 as a starting point? Is that when you came out of the coma?

You see...I feel badly. Here I am slapping you around when you probably traded your last food stamps to someone for internet access. I'm so sorry...can I offer you a winter coat from last year or a sandwich
