Great win by the Lady Falcons tonight!

Post by transfer2BGSU »

Great job by Coach Curt Miller and the Lady Falcons this evening.

No free fries, but BG scored 81 against YSU. YSU shot the three! I think they made their first six before the missed one.

And the pep band sounded GREAT!

Kate Achter is the real deal. I felt badly for the YSU ladies trying to guard her. I think they must have rolled an ankle or two trying to keep up with Kate's first step.

Liz Honneger pulled down 15 rebounds. That's an amazing total for a midget post player....

Flipper -- I hear you on that one Brother! Liz was great tonight and I didn't see any problems with our inside game tonight. I'm "cheating" here with two browsers open while I look at the final stats. They show us shooting 5-19 from three-point land and we still won 83-61! It was great seeing Kate Achter slice through the YSU defense for 23 points! She is going to be a real nice player for us for three more seasons. That was a good YSU team we beat, too. We lost to them last year and they will win a bunch of games in their league this season. We had four kids in double figures. In addition to Kate, Ali Mann, Liz Honneger, and Carin Horne all had 14. Tough for opponents to stop that kind of balance. Casey McDowell had 8 points and played some nice defense on their guards. We were really solid tonight on the defensive end of the floor from what I saw. Geez, now I have to wait another month for the next home game ... GRRR!

Inside game? Were we at the same game? I noticed 4 or 5 players around the 3 point line almost the entire game. When there would be someone on the block, the ball would be on the other side of the key making it hard to get passes down there. I'm not trying to be negative, that's just what I saw. They played a great game and really shut down YSU on defense. Go Falcons!

I'm with Ed, we did have some success inside, usually when Kate Achter was in the game. She really knows how to work the ball into the low post. She actually looks for the post player rolling to the basket when she comes off the high screen.

At any rate, I think we all agree that this was a quality win over a good team!

I just got done looking at the stats for the game, and here are a few things that I think jump out at you. First, we forced them into 18 turnovers. 8 of those turnovers were steals that help lead to easy baskets. We had 18 assists, so we were finding the open girl for good looks. We obviously had some easy looks getting out ahead of the YSU because we shot 52% for the game. That is a great percentage to shoot for any team. And we hit 14 of 19 free throws. Anyone who knows the UCLA fastbreak, which is what Coach Miller is trying to run with 4 out and 1 in from what it sounds like to me, knows that this offense feeds of of the defense, and gets a lot of transition buckets. There is no need for a true center, and usually wears down big girls by the end of the game because of the fast pace tempo. Then it becomes how deep their bench is, and usually past the first "center", there isn't much depth inside. Yes, it does help to have a tall girl on the defensive end, but you can't criticize the offense, because it really does work if run the right way. Just let the season play out, and just watch.

solid win

Good job by Curt, the staff and the ladies :D They put together a solid win. It's still early in the season, with a young offense. Just 'cause we were 2 points shy of free fries, I see no reason to worry about the offense.

They will put it all together and come home in a month to provide AA with some exciting basketball. We need to spread the word and start filling AA. Good Luck on the road ladies! We'll see you in a month. 8)

Great job Falcons! Nice 22 point win. Achter is gonna be a special player and ya gotta love Honneger's style of play...15 boards.

2-2 on the year....BGSU now hits the road for the next six games, beginning with a pair of contests in the Brown Classic this weekend. The Falcons will face Lehigh in Saturday (Dec. 4) action, then will play either Winthrop or Brown the following afternoon. The Falcons' next home game is Dec. 30 vs. Bucknell.
Ouch....a month away from home.

GO BG!~

Let me just say that we scored 64 of our 83 points inside, we looked very solid inside last night, especially Kate. Man does she know how to take it to the rack and draw the foul. We were only 5 of 19 from 3-point land, the shots just didnt' seem to want to fall from there last night. I definitely liked what I saw last night. We still have a few more things to work on but we are getting better with every game. Good luck to the Falcons in Providence, RI at the Brown Classic, let's bring home a couple of victories.

Our inside game.....

Post by Falconboy »

Whether its getting into the post with Ali Mann or Kate or somebody else slashing to the hoop I don't care how we get an inside game as long as it works. I do wish we would feed Ali more in the post because she's got some good post skills. I shudder to think what we would do if she got injured. :?

We have a different definition of inside games then. Also, you must realize I had a backboard in front of me to watch the game the whole night so I will admit to missing some of the plays...

There was great penetration to the basket and it lead to a lot of points. The UCLA reference earlier in this thread does make a lot of sense now that I think about it. I still would like to see more plays set up for the post players to get involved even if they are lacking in size :P Honestly, I'm still unsure about this team and how good they really are.

good showing

Post by jacojdm »

it was a fun game to watch, highlighted by the 19-0 run to take the lead midway through the first half. ysu couldn't respond and their 3 pointers weren't as accurate the rest of the game.
very much looking forward to traveling w/ the ladies to providence tomorrow morning (not looking forward to the 600 AM return flight on monday).
