so the condition of the Ice Arena has no effect on our recruiting efforts

I laugh at anyone who says that we can't recruit. We consistently have talented players including at least 1 pro-prospect. The fact that anyone can get people to come play in the crap hole we call an ice arena is a credit to the coaching staff. I know if I came and saw our barn I'd run the other way.

Bowling Green should be a powerhouse. it is not hard to recruit players to BG becaus it is a great college town and the program has great tradition. the reason we can't recruit better players is because the word is out that Paluch is just flat out a bad coach and recruits shy away from BG because of that. My coach from juniors has already told me that Paluch has a bad reputation around the league.

This guy has been given enough time and he has failed. the only reason why the team had a decent year was beacuase of Rierden. all the players love him. they all said he is the coach of that team and they all play for him, not Scott Paluch.

The Athletic Department needs to get rid of Paluch and make Todd Rierden the head coach of BG and then we will be on our way to becoming a top team in the CCHA and the country for that matter.
I do think it would be interesting to see Reirden as head coach. I'm not saying that I think Paluch should be fired but from what I hear the players def. like Reirden. Freshman year I was friends with a player on the team(who will remain nameless) who I know pretty much couldn't stand Paluch. This player also only made it into a few games in his two years here and no longer goes to school at BG, so maybe his lack of playing time was his reason for not liking Paluch. I also think its weird that every time I see a recruit walking around campus with his parents that he's always walking around with Reirden, with Paluch nowhere to be found. I've seen this on multiple occasions and I don't know what to think of it.

The venues where UofM and UND call home are certainly "state of the art" now aren't they? The Suckeyes, Foreskins, and Sparties do have an advantage on us, but our barn is not as bad as you make it out to be.

+1 Yeah, PegCity once again is way off the mark. When our building is rocking, there's no better place to play. Look at OSU's "state of the art" arena, how much has that helped them in recent years?

Peg City, you ever been to the Ice Arena? Have you ever been to some of the other "Barns" in the CCHA? Let me tell you, Ferris St. is no picnic, and they seem to recruit well. I was talking to Greg Christopher last week, and I told him I'm glad they didn't go the Ice Arena/Basketball Arena route. I love the Ice Arena. When it is rockin', the place is the loudest arena in the CCHA, bar none. The improvements, which will begin next summer, will help immensely. I mean, the final game against Lake St. we had what, maybe 1,000 people there, and when Jacob scored the winning goal, you could have sworn the roof was going to come off, it was that loud. It doesn't hurt recruiting. If I was a recruit, I would want to play in a place that was loud, not a huge, cavernous arena (Ohio State) where during a game, you can almost hear a pin drop. In fact, I would like to see them take out the seats that were added a few years ago, and reduce the seating back to about 3700. The Ice Arena has tradition and character. It'a great place to watch a game, just like the old Toledo Sports Arena was. And with improvements, it will only get better.

Indeed I have been to each of the 12 CCHA venues and BG Ice Arena is second worst in front of Ferris. You don't have to have a lot of seats to be a good venue. Miami proves that. They have the best rink outside the Quest Centre in Omaha. Yes, the Yost isn't exactly state of the art, but they have a state of the art training facility. The BG ice arena is in worse shape than many high school arenas. Is it loud? well only if we are playing Michigan or Ohio State. Some people hear need to branch out and read a book on hockey because some of you no absolutely nothing about hockey. Stick to football people come back when you understand the difference between the for-check and the back-check.

Yeah, none of us here know anything about hockey. Let's see, I went to my first professional game in 1980. I saw Wayne Gretzky in person when he played for Edmonton in 1981. I've been to so many hockey games, Pro, College, and Minor, it's hard for me to count. I saw Jason Spezza and Steve Ott when they were playing for the Windsor Spitfires, along with Cam Janssen. DON'T tell me I don't know anything about the game. I've been playing hockey for almost 20 years also, so I'm not just a fan sitting in the seats. And I was at BG from 83 thru 86, yes I stood in line for 2 plus hours before EVERY home game. In 4 years, I NEVER missed a home game. I've been to Ferris, I've been to Lawson, I've been to Ohio State, damn, I hate it when people think they are superior. You don't even know who you are talking too. Just because you live in Canada, you have this hockey superiority thing going. Whatever, I guess because I live in the States, we're not allowed to understand the game the way YOU do. Bull****. I'm glad you went to BG, be proud of your university and the team. Quit putting them down all the time. It grates on me when people think they have to drag the team through the mud. Support the team and the University where you were lucky enough to earn a degree from. Once a Falcon, always a Falcon. Bleed Burnt Sienna and Seal Brown. I don't want to get into a shouting match, but for God's sake, give it a rest.

The term is forecheck, not for-check, dufus.

My son played high school hockey and I can guarantee that the ice arena is better than all of them that he played in.

BTW, the Qwest is not owned by UNO...it's a public facility. They get pre-empted several times a year by rodeos and monster truck rallys. They can have it.

The ice arena needs work....but that's coming and when it's complete it will be on par with the better arenas in the CCHA.

Or MSU, or ND, or WMU, or Ferris, or LSSU, or UAF...

Its not perfect but its ours, and we should really be proud of it.

Speaking of LSSU, I can't wait to play them this year. Mahoeny-Wilson will remember this town for the rest of his life.
Yeah right girl!

Just noticed that a BG recruit (John Samuels-Thomas) is in the USHL semi-finals with Waterloo. Along with Solway, Sexton, and Tiesling (who won it all in 07) it's nice to get players who know what it takes to win. :D

I kind of disagree. I went to every single hockey game for the past two seasons and when we get a goal or when we're pumping up the boys or when we win... that place is REALLY loud no matter who we're playing. Is it louder when it's Michigan and Ohio State? Yeah, of course, but from my personal experience being there, it is very, very loud every single time. (ok, unless it's the end of a game that we just lost bad...then not so loud.)

To be fair, when I have seen other team's coaches walking around campus with a recruit its usually been assistants
