The Pub in Rocky River

Post by VDub26Falcon »

I don't know if any of you have ever been to this establishment before but I went there for the first time on Saturday after the Indians beat the Yankees and I've got to say, it is an AMAZING place. They have a lot of British inspired entrees including staples like fish and chips. They also have some great Americanized British entrees such as the Grilled Chicken sandwich I had. It had pepperjack cheese and rasher bacon on it and it was great. The best part however, was their beer selection. Now, I was a little disappointed with their lack of Irish taps (Just Guinness, Harp and another I can't remember) but their English taps were amazing! They had Old Speckled Hen which I gladly imbibed and I also had a pint of Old Engine Oil which looks just like its name and tastes like liquid gold. It was one of the best dark beers I've ever had. It's dark like Guinness but is considered an Ale. Another great thing about this place is the fact that almost every beer has its own glass that it is served in. All in all, a great beer experience with 5.50 being the average price of their specialty pints.

Where in Rocky River is this, and is it new? Off the top of my head I can't recall having ever heard of it before. I actually thought you were talking about RRBC (which sucks!) initially.

In terms of beer selection, would you say it is better than the Winking Lizard?

The Physical address for The Pub is 19304 Detroit. I would say that they have as many taps as the Lizard but their selections are more obsucure, such as the Old Engine Oil I spoke of. They also have a monthly cask which, while I was there, was called either Denk or Dank, I couldn't really understand the girl and I didn't see the name posted anywhere. It was flavorful, fragrant and extremely smooth, as it was served at a much higher (room) temperature than the taps. As for how long it has been there, I guess it just opened back in November of 2007. The front looks like an old Movie Theater Marquee. It's awesome!

Oh, I know where you're talking about! I havn't heard of the place until now, but I will be sure to check it out soon. The Beachcliff area of Detroit is supposed to be getting some upgrades over the coming years according to an article I read in the Sun last week. It would be nice if there were some nice restaurants in the area besides the one or two mainstays.

Interesting side-note: I went to nursery school at the Presbyterian church just west of there where I ate many multi-colored crayons. :-D

Now, are those the same crayons that were, until recently, used to print the newspaper in Lima??? Allegedly

I don't think so. Lima was a lot more advanced than my preschool was some 22 years ago. They had crayons comprised of individual colors. :-D

I've never been there, and I drive past it a few times a week. It's my understanding that The Pub is part of a regional chain. It seems like it's been open for about a year, and I've yet to make it in. You're the second person that I've heard speak well of the joint. I guess we'll have to try it out.

Yeah...I didn't know it was a chain until I went to their website...took me a while to find the site but it is www.luvthepub.com If you join their rewards club you get a free t-shirt so I'm sure I'll take advantage of that. But yes, definitely make it a point to head in to the Pub.

Perhaps we could get an AZZ dinner together there at some point for those of us in the Cleveland area? Might be kind of fun (and I promise I'd wear pants  ).
