Paul Krebs letter to Alumni.

Post by NWLB »

After another successful season, the Falcon football team is heading to
Mobile, Alabama, to play in the GMAC Bowl on December 22nd, at 8 p.m.
EST. Don't miss out on the opportunity to see your 2004 BGSU football
team play one last time and enjoy the fun and pageantry of a college
bowl game. The Falcons will play the Memphis Tigers of Conference USA
in a game nationally broadcast on ESPN. In past years, the GMAC bowl
has been one of the most exciting and highly rated bowl games.

Bowling Green boasts one of the most exciting teams in the nation with
the best young quarterback in the country in sophomore and MAC Offensive
Player of the Year, Omar Jacobs. Under the leadership of second-year
coach Gregg Brandon, the Falcons rank among national leaders in most
offensive categories and are among the elite in scoring defense and
turnover margin.

I am asking all Falcon fans that you buy your tickets through the BGSU
Athletic Ticket Office so that we can show future bowl selection
committees how much support we have. This is really the only way we can
legitimately gauge the number of fans that travel to our bowl sites and
it helps us build a track record with the various bowl committees. The
reality of the situation is that numbers talk (attendance, travel
history, season tickets sold, donations, television ratings, etc.) and
your participation does make a difference! It is also critical because
the money generated from the sale of tickets helps to cover costs
incurred by the department in traveling to the game. If you can't make
the game and wish to support the Falcon football team by purchasing
tickets, please inform the ticket office when placing your order, and
the BGSU athletic department will donate the tickets to a youth
organization in Mobile.

The BGSU Alumni Association will be hosting a pre-game event in Mobile
in conjunction with the game. For a full listing of these events,
please visit our website at www.bgsualumni.com. Also, for answers to
many frequently asked questions involving the bowl game and tickets,
please visit www.BGSUFalcons.com and click on the GMAC Bowl banner.

To purchase your tickets, please click on the ticket order form If you
have any additional questions, please feel free to contact the athletic
ticket office at 1-877- BGSU-Ticket. Thank you for your support in
making 2004 another tremendous season and I look forward to seeing a
great Falcon turnout in Mobile!

Sincerely,
Paul Krebs

I saw BGSU33 posted part of this letter yesterday ( http://www.ay-ziggy-zoomba.com/phpBB2/v ... php?t=2512 ). It seemed a little odd because it had no signature. It looked like it was from the athletic department, but I thought it could also be a personal request to make sure everyone bought their tickets through BG's ticket office. Actually, I just got the letter from Krebs as I was writing this. It's nice to see things like this getting out to alumni to encourage our attendance and participation with this program. We need to see more of these of messages.

Yeah, I received an email with that message in it. I just posted it as a reminder to all. Getting tickets through BGSU is the best way for "us" to do it.

Is it really going to cost us $750,000+ to travel to this game?

Other stories I have read said that we pay expenses from our payout and the remainder goes to the league to divide amongst all teams, therefore, I don't really buy the "...costs incurred travelling..." argument.

No, I doubt that.

Here's the thing.

The MAC may put Bowling Green on a travel budget, with anything over that budget to be covered directly by BGSU.
