Post by MobileBama »

Looks like Ladd Stadium is getting a much needed makeover. I hope everyone is doing well.

Looks like this is the last year for the MAC to play in the GMAC Bowl.

That would be a shame if we lost or tie-in with the GMAC Bowl for a myriad of reasons.

Tangerine Bowl "revisited"?

Post by Class of 61 »

That article reminds me of how the MAC lost its connections to the old Tangerine Bowl...After UT beat some SEC teams (if I recall correctly), suddenly the MAC wasn't wanted anymore... I think it was the Chuck Ealey era (late 60's, early 70's).... I wasn't able to go the game this year due to my busted ankle...but I know quite a few AZZer's DID go. Anyone know how many tix that BG sold or contributed? I contributed mine to the U. to give out to worthy kids in the Mobile area... but I wonder if the MAC hasn't been "filling" its quota...the bowls LOVE the teams like SEC teams (logically) since these schools usually sell ALL their tickets and want more if they can get them.

Bowls are in the MONEY business first...and hopefully get the Matchups that'll give them that.

THAT, my friend, would suck royally. Despite the outcome this past year, I LOVE Mobile and the atmosphere. I sincerely hope the MAC continues to get a bid there.

Thanks for the updates, MB. Hope you're doing well.

It would suck to lose the GMAC tie in, that seems like the most true bowl experience of any of our current tie ins.

That being said, and I know I'm in the minority on this, I don't think the MAC really deserves more than 2 tie ins. It doesn't seem like we usually have 3 teams that are really "bowl worthy" in my estimation.

Then again none of the other conferences deserve as many bowl tie-ins as they have either. There are just too damn many bowl games, period. Still, will be a shame to see us lose this tie in, just because I know so many of you have had great times down there.

I agree that it would hurt to lose an official tie-in, but all this does is add another tie-in for the BCS that can't fill their spots anyway. There are so many bowl games anymore that any MAC team will probably go bowling if they go .500. We may only be officially tied to the MCB and International Bowl in the future, but I'm sure that there will be other open spots for MAC teams.

I wouldn't mind going to a different venue but will take any bowl invite when you get right down to it. the trips to Mobile were great fun. Better during Mobile I than this past january...but hey the parade was at fun at least.

The most important question is when does MobileBama and his crew trek North????
There is no other way to finish a season other than yelling at the top of your lungs among BG's players holding the Peace Pipe aloft!
