Anything involving OSU lasts at least a few weeks on this board and goes longer than most topics that are BG related. So either OSU actually is important or we're inside the bubble and don't want to admit it.Zom wrote:I like to guess which topics can stay alive the longest. I thought this topic would last about a week. It was one month old yesterday! I wonder how much disk space it uses? 6 pages. Hmm. I'm going to go out on a limb and take a stab at 30K.
I like Houston Falcon's point: OSU are only important if you stand inside their bubble.
#4 most hated sports club in the country....

I would much rather play in the national title game 3 times in 6 years than only finish in the top 4 for 100 years straight. Florida State's years came when there was no championship game, it was all based on coaches and media (southern and western biased) voting. It was flawed.moneymaker02 wrote:sorry but florida state was the TEAM of the 90's. teck just rambled on how great osu was, i seem to remember osu getting blasted by florida state in the sugar bowl one year. when you finish in the top 4 for 14 years straight, then you can talk about competing for championships
Where have they been when they can't rely on the bias?
You can't tell me there isn't a bias for FSU, Miami or anyone else who sucks from Florida or California. Why else would they STILL be in the top 25 polls at the beginning of every season despite their ridiculously horrible records and play?

tek is wrong once again, fsu has actually been in 3 bcs championships winning 1 of them. they lost to that tee martin and peerless price tennessee team with a true freshmen qb cuz weinke broke his neck. then lost to oklahoma and then beat a mike vick va tech squad in 99' in which people talk about that fsu team as being one of the greats. dont forget they also beat nebraska in 93.
actually the only osu game i can remember that was worthwhile was when they beat arizona state in a classic

Like I said, Florida state made it when the formula still counted human votes heavier than any other part of it. They relied on a voter bias.
What does beating Nebraska in '93 have to do with the BCS? The BCS wasn't even a pipe dream at that time. Teams like FSU can have their moment for a few years and then they die. Same with Miami, Nebraska, Michigan, Va Tech, and everyone else.
Teams like OSU are always competitive, always sniffing a championship no matter how much turnover they have. It doesn't matter. There will be the occasional 6-6 season after a coaching change but it never lasts. FSU, Miami, Nebraska...how long has their droughts lasted? Florida had a pretty lenghty drought until Meyer came alog. That doesn't happen at OSU.
Tek, I am not going to argue OSU's record on the field over the last 5 years. They have had as much success over that period as any other program in the country. However, I think you are looking a little too much at the present in dismissing programs like FSU, Miami, Nebraska, Florida, etc. Yeah, FSU, Miami, and Nebraska are down from their glory years, much like OSU was from 1987 to 1992 when they failed to record a 10+ win season. FSU's "drought" of less than 10-win seasons is at 4 right now. Miami's "drought" is also at 4 right now. Every big time program has a little dip every once in a while, but they all come back pretty strong. It does happen at OSU and it will happen again some time in the future. It just has not happened recently. Just like it had not occurred at those other programs in a long while.tekekini wrote:Teams like OSU are always competitive, always sniffing a championship no matter how much turnover they have. Remember, FSU finished with 10+ wins EVERY year from 1987 to 2000 (top 5 finish all of those years). I like how you dismissed that as having their "moment for a few years".

They have also been playing longer than any other major college team around. I haven't been able to find winning percentages from 1860's when UM started playing football but I did find this:moneymaker02 wrote:i dont think ohio state had won a nat title in my lifetime until 2002. face it, osu is known as a perinial top 15 team traditionally. always very solid but nothing that makes you shake their head and say man they're good. also.....isnt michigan the all-time most winningest team in the country???
here are winning percentages since 1926. When football really started to matter
1. Ohio State .73416
2. Tennessee .73237
3. Michigan .72426
4. Oklahoma .72307
5. Alabama .72120

I agree- it seems as though some people are gratuitously posting just to keep this thread going for no good reason. They go on and on about nothing and just add to the level of stupidity already present here. I never do that and I want it to stop now. I invite other rational fans out there to weigh in here and give us ideas about how we could bring this thread to a close.San Fran Falcon wrote:EVERYBODY.......SHUT UP ALREADY!!!!!!! You're absolutely correct. People need to stop posting in this thread and let it die.h2oville rocket wrote:I agree- it seems as though some people are gratuitously posting just to keep this thread going for no good reason. I'm definitely on board with that.
