I've read this paragraph five times and I can't seem to figure it out. Could someone please help me here? So if he goes to NU does BG get the $100K or not? They are not protected from the buyout clause so they pay right?Should Miller leave for Northwestern, it will not come without penalty. According to the contract extension Miller signed in July, Northwestern is the only Big Ten program that is not protected by a buyout clause should Miller choose to leave BG. Colorado State and the University of Colorado are the only other schools exempted from the $100,000 buyout penalty.

I read it as if coach leaves for Colorado, Colorado State or any of the other Big Televen teams not named Northwestern then he does not have to pay a $100,000 buyout. Why only Northwestern would be the lone Big 11 team not exempted is just odd.Dayons_Den wrote:I've read this paragraph five times and I can't seem to figure it out. Could someone please help me here? You're reading it correctly. All big ten schools other than NW are exempt from the buyout clause. Also exempt are the colorado schools. ANYWHERE else would incur a $100,000 buyout.

So the real culprit then is the "will not come without penalty" mess of negatives...
To add, Northwestern is a dirty, stinky place that doesn't care about education...

Ugh.
Here we go again. I guess we're gonna have to live with these rumors every year it seems. Yeah, I can not see Miller leaving us for NW. Its a downgrade in my opinion in probably every way except pay. Miller has the chance to become practically immortal in coaching terms here at BG and in the world of women's college basketball coaches. He's been getting better and more talented recruits every year and he's not done yet. If he can "steal" Jess Slagle from MSU and Purdue then we possibly have not scratched the surface of what Miller could do here with his recruiting and stellar coaching. Again, I can't see Northwestern being appealing to him at all.

Northwestern is one of the top universities in the country, and Chicago is a great place to live. I was there for twelve years. I don't know what Miller's long-term personal goals are, but NW shouldn't be discounted.Falconboy wrote:Ugh.Here we go again. I guess we're gonna have to live with these rumors every year it seems. Not sure I agree with that. Based on recent performances, NW seems to be making a statement that they want to be major player in women's sports.Falconboy wrote:. . . Its a downgrade in my opinion in probably every way except pay. . .
Four Lacrosse Championships in a row and some pretty good success in minor sports. This may be an indication that they want to go big time in women's hoops.

I'm sure NW has some better things than us facility wise and maybe in a few other areas but as far as a their basketball program is concerned they're not as accomplished as us. Coach Miller would would be basically starting from scratch with NW's program which is terrible. Why would he want to start from scratch when he's got BG's program steam rolling ahead?Lord_Byron wrote:Not sure I agree with that. I wouldn't be surprised for him to look at the offer but I don't believe for a second Miller is leaving us for Northwestern. Like someone else said, if he didn't bite with Michigan who's in a much better position to rise quicker than a NW , why would he leave for a much lesser B10 job?

While I hope Curt stays at BGSU forever, he might be the type of coach that likes the challenge of building a program. We were down (WAAAAAAY down) when he took over here -- a situation very close to the one at NW. Maybe he wants to try to do the same thing on a larger scale.
Also, I don't think he was ever offered the job at Michigan.

Northwestern is a magnificent university (minus a few professors) with an athletic program that can only regualrly compete in tiny niche sports like women's lacrosse because of their competition and admissions standards. He wouldn't be able to rebuild them in the same way he did BG.
He's earned the right to write his own ticket, but he's nuts if he goes to Northwestern. What worries me is they just hired the AD from NIU, Jim Phillips, and he's known as a dogged recruiter of coaches. Hopefully Christopher can counter the propaganda they're filling his head with and stop him from making a huge mistake.
