Big 33 Allstar Game Tonight

BG recruit Bart Tanski is one of two QBs on the Ohio roster for tonight's BIG 33 Allstar game. Zack Dysert a Maimi Redhawk recruit is the other.
It will be interesting to see how they do.

I know we are biased, but think of the great football players that came out of Ohio and Pennsylvania. I know Florida, CA and Texas are now known for their players, but I will take take the heart and work ethic from the kids from here any day.

Don't know if this is posted elsewhere, but BG incoming 2008 recruits are well represented at the Ohio North-South All Star game in Columbus June 14.

Keith Morgan Bellefontaine S/WR and Tim German Licking Valley OL are on the South team. Marc Stevens Lexington OL, Aaron Pankratz Nordonia QB and Nick Tuminello Boardman LB/DL are on the North squad.

Both our incoming HS QB's are in the big all star games. Pretty good.

I tend to agree with you there. I'm in Texas now and I haven't seen a game here yet, but I'm really eager to see the difference(if there is one).

Marc Stevens? Never heard of him.

So ... does anybody plan on recording either game? I don't know off the top of my head what networks they're on, but probably not big ones, and I'm kinda really excited to see Bart Tanski in action. Not that Pankratz is not also going to be great, but I just have this feeling that Tanski is going to be the next great Falcon QB.

Fox 8 in Cleveland did a story on Tanski a week or so ago...problem is they only mentioned BG once.

Still, nice to see him getting props. He said he has every intention of playing...nothing wrong with having a stable of capable QB's.

Aaron Pankratz had a great game tonight. Stats to come.

Marc Stevens played center for almost 80% of the game and did a great job too. It was the first time he ever played center and he dominated the nose guard. Aaron commented that he was very pleased with the snaps.

The North won 31 to 9.

Stevens is for real! I was glad to see that the big kid wearing 69 with te purple helmet was a FALCON.

Now, comparing QBs, I was much more impressed with CMU recruit Ryan Ratcliff - when he wasn't throwing from his back foot, he was much more accurate than Pankratz.

Don’t expect good stats from the Big33 game. Tanski, and the Miami QB Dysert had very little time making throws but both showed the ability to throw a tight spiral on a clothesline. Both alternated possessions the whole game. The OL was dominated most of the game and about every pass was rushed. Blocking of any kind was forgotten in every aspect of the game. Dysert had a good drive and the two TD throws, but rarely threw accurately. Tanski often overthrew but I give him credit for trying to relax in the role and be a leader. He went down hard a few times but had a good run or two and seemed to be quick on his feet eluding a LB. The best throw of the first half was from a WR (Orsbon, Ball St) on a trick play.

Playing behind a good line would have made a big difference in the game as both had good receivers to throw to. The star is going to Michigan and the Toledo receiver looked good but didn’t have many chances.

The story of the game was the DL of PA with 3 or 4 going to Temple. They dominated the OL with penetrations, tipped balls, and sacks. I think they had a 350# tackle in decent shape to survive the heat. They’re not the smartest on the field and had more than their share of penalties and cheap shots. One face masked Dysert all the way to the ground, but the officials quickly found a hold to offset the penalty.

Other than the Ball St receiver, Kent seems to be getting a good but underrated DB named Green from PA. He covered well on a few plays and has good size. Miami is getting a fast DB in Brown. He outran the QB and a RB to make tackles. The other DB’s had it tough playing man to man coverage and seemed out classed the whole game. The one that stood out is going to Toledo. I can’t count how many times he missed a tackle, ran passed the ball carrier, or just forgot he had arms.

The announcers did mention BG a couple of times but spent most of the time discussing the Pittsburgh recruiting class that was well represented.

I also attended the North-South game and agree with above comments on Marc Stevens- he looked very, very good in there at center. Really blocked well.

A Pankratz made two big time throws in this game- a 30 yard absolute dart between two defenders on a deep crossing route on the numbers and a beautiful 15 yard fade for a TD in the third quarter. Had an excellent 10 yard scramble up the middle. A few other throws were high, but he has a very strong arm. To be fair, a couple overthrows were because of coverage which shows good judgement. Very poised looking out there. Perfect job handling placements for the busy Pitt bound kicker.

Keith Morgan played well for the South giving up no big plays that I saw as he played exclusively at corner in this game. He also played CB in HS along with QB/WR/Returner. May be more of a safety as noted earlier. He was the number one return man although he didn't get many chances as the other kid happened to get the kicks. He did show off his skills on a super 12 yard punt return- taking the ball straight up the middle avoiding two tacklers and then delivering a blow to get the last two yards. Made a TD saving hustle tackle at the goal line when another kid missed a tackle on the sideline.

Nick Tuminello played very well for the North as left defensive end. He had two sacks and generally did not get knocked down/blocked too easily. Ran pretty well as evidenced by his special teams/kick coverage play, Just looked like a real FB player- which figures given his brotehr's excellent careers at Toledo and Georgia Tech.

Big Tim German appeared in only one series for the South that I saw in the first three quarters. This kid is absolutely gigantic. I am not sure if he was slightly injured or what. Perhaps I just missed him in there- but he is hard to miss! When he entered the game the announcer mentioned that Tim's grandfather played in the North-South game- I believe in 1948. Should sell some tickets as he had quite a family contingent in the stands.

Good showing by our guys.
