I'm not positive, but I don't think the Pirates game will be able to be moved to noon. I think there are restrictions in Fox's TV schedule for Saturday afternoon games that limit the games to only the ones that they plan to air (either regionally or nationally). Similarly ESPN has a deal that the only Sunday night game allowed is the one on their Sunday night telecast.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that the only way the Pirates game could be moved to afternoon would be if Fox picked it up for their telecast. Then again they usually air at 3:30, so perhaps they'd allow a noon game?

My guess would be that the BG game will be a noon kick, and the Pirates will stay where they are. Then again, maybe the Pirates will just forfeit, will it really matter by that point in the season? ;)

They will be eliminated by Memorial Day.

I don't think that's true, since MLB allows teams to contract their own TV deals. How could one usurp all the rest? None the less, I'll be at this game for sure, it's the only guarantee for me. Minny is a slim chance, but Pitt for sure!

While MLB allows teams to contract their own deals, MLB can place restrictions on those broadcasts.

I'm almost positive that FOX has exclusivity during their Sat afternoon broadcasts. Now, teams can still play during that time, they just can't locally broadcast their own game during that time.

That said, the chances that the Pirates game gets moved for this game is extremely small. They didn't do it for Michigan State 2 years ago and they aren't going to do it for Pitt/BG that will, at best, be a ESPN regional broadcast.

It's going to be a noon start. Maybe 1PM, although that is cutting it close.

Maybe you're right. They could play a game that interfered with the Fox broadcast, but not air it on local TV. I know 100% that ESPN has an exclusivity deal for the Sunday Night games. I'm pretty sure, as you said, that Fox has one for their Saturday afternoon games as well.

Fox doesn't start airing Saturday afternoon games until a few weeks into the season. That exclusivity deal is why if you look at most teams' schedules they play a lot of Saturday afternoon games early in the year, but then they all go to night games, unless they're the ones slated for the Fox broadcast.

Either way, I don't think it matters. I cannot see them moving the pirates game for a BG/Pitt football game.

NOON KICK!?!

Post by SB-50 »

The Pirates and Panthers had one conflict date in 2007. On Sep 8, Pitt played Grambling at noon, and the Pirates played the Cubs at 7:05pm. Chnaces are the same schedule will play out on Aug 30. For all those travelling on Saturday, make a gallon jug of Bloody Mary (Zing Zang brand) and c'mon wit it.

Or just drink Yuengling. I used to make the drive from my house in Pittsburgh to BG in under 4 hours. Even if the game is at noon, fans can still leave NW Ohio Saturday morning and get to Pittsburgh in enough time to tailgate. Go BG! Pitt is sh**.

If it is a noon kick, the Freaks could leave by 7 and be there by 9 at the latest. Tailgate for a couple hours and head in to watch the Falcons beat Pitt. Then back home after the game by 6 or 7 and watch college ball all night. Not a bad way to start the season.

Fairly certain I will be at this game barring any commitments with the band.

I'll def. be there. I have a couple buddies who go to Pitt. Think an Orange T-shirt would stick out in the middle of their student section?

I'll be there in the suite of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette! The Blade is good for something, and that's free tickets to Heinz Field!

I was thinking of the local players from Western Pennsylvania on BG that will get a chance to show Pitt they were overlooked.

It will be cool for Shane Steffy, Nate Waldron, Marquis Parks and Kenny Lewis. I hope I didn't miss anybody else.

Angelo Mangone is from Steubenville, which is about 30 miles from Pittsburgh.

Steffy's brother played at Pitt.

Too bad Winovich did not have another year to play in front of his home town.

Can't wait unitl 8/30/08.

PITTSBURGH A 1PM KICK ??

Post by SB-50 »

STUB HUB SHOWS THE PITT GAME AS A 1PM KICK. (IT ALSO SHOWS PITT'S WVU GAME AS A NOON KICK, AS DOES PITT'S OWN WEBSITE). THIS ONLY MAKES SENSE AS THE PIRATES PLAY LATER THAT NIGHT. I'M SURE WE'RE LOOKING AT AN AFTERNOON KICK.

ROLL ON YOU BG WARRIORS!!!!!!!!

SHOW UP FALCON NATION, WE CAN DOMINATE THAT STADIUM ON THE FIELD AND IN THE SEATS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ordered 4 tickets for the Pitt game yesterday, and I'm anxious to learn the start time. To stay there the night before or the night after is the question.
Will anyone suggest a hotel? I like seeing alot of orange when I stumble out of my room in the morning.
