AY-ZIGGY-ZOOMBA.COM GMAC Bowl Watch Party Thread!!

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

OK, I think this is a great idea, but I'm not sure the best way to go about it. I was thinking maybe get a banquet hall or a conference room at a hotel, but I'm not sure what kind of turnout we're looking at. Maybe just a room at a bar with a big TV. Maybe a tent out by the Doyt.

Let's talk it out, get a feel for how many we could expect and plan accordingly. Those of us who can't get to Mobile can still get together and enjoy the game amongst friends!

Anyone have thoughts? We could even get it catered! Maybe invite the basketball teams or any other athletes on campus... All kinds of ideas running through my head. Let's hear what's in yours!

If the athletes are invited, we cannot have certain beverages.....just a thought..... 8)
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

When it comes to watch parties, I have to say that I'm partial to someone's home, depending on the size of the gathering. Cost is one issue, but I think there's something much more comfortable about being able to flop on couches, chairs & the floor.

We'll be missing you guys!

Oooh, Grant. I never did mail that package! What a dope I am.

1987...My house? You think I'm letting the Freak in my bathroom?    I saw those Kid N' Play House Party movies..it ain't gonna happen.

I'm liking the idea of finding a spot like a conference room or something similar..we'd have to bring ina TV as they probably don't have anything bigger than 27 inch screen...or we could commandeer Fricker's or a similar sized establishment. Any bars have a big screen in BG?

B-dubs does.

*ducks the chairs flying from the warm beer argument*

I'm sure most of them do. Jed's I know (or have heard, I've never been in there) has a back room that has been reserved in the past, but I don't know if they have a big screen back there.

BW3 has 3 Front projection big screens, 2 in the bar & 1 in the dining room.

Jeds' back room has a front projection big screen.

Downtown has multiple big screens.

Frickers has multiple big screens.

Both Quarters have at least one big screen.

I have a big screen :)

Seriously there is no shortage of big screen TV's available in BG. I'm sure we can find someplace to watch it.

you sound like you've done your research, hammb... :drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers: (etc.)

finding a bar should be no problem, and space shouldn't be much of a problem at most of those. Worst case scenario, we're watching amongst fellow Falcons, right?

It will be the middle of a work week, two days before Christmas, between semesters. So locally, in BG, anyplace in town will be dead. Thus, crowds need not be a concern.

Frickers has a big-screen, but it is in the side room. But if they can't figure out to have enough wait staff on hand for coaches shows, they won't have enough there for a bowl game held between semesters. The food isn't "bad" but isn't inspired. However it would be a cozy setting, makes coverstation easier, etc.

It would be nice if there were someplace at the Union with a big-screen that could be booked. It would be nicer, but I'm sure impossible, to get Falcon Club to let us use the Stadium club.

But of course I've done my research in that regard!

Beyond the TVs you have:

BW-3 serves their beer warm nowadays. Nice selection, but not cold :(

Jed's serves draft beer in plastic cups (although its been awhile since I've been there). I don't like beer in plastic, but they also have a nice selection.

Downtown also serves draft beer in plastic cups.

Frickers has the best cold Killians in town.

Quarters doesn't have Killians, they do have Amber Boch...not a fan.

As for food none of the above places really outclasses any others, IMO.

Ziggy's also has a big screen, although they might be closed with school out (they were Thanksgiving weekend). Their food is so-so at best, but they do have good cold drinks in mason jars. They also have the best bartenders in town.

I'm in favor of trying to have to at someone's place. There's nothing like sitting at home eating nachos and watching some good football. I would say that Jon and I would host, but we live in an apartment...a not very big apartment. I am willing to make guacamole and nachos for whatever we plan to do!
