BG will play at Duquesne this year

Post by BGSU33 »

I was trying to piece together the non-conference schedule and came across a game at Duquesne in what should be a return game from last year ( http://goduquesne.cstv.com/sports/m-bas ... 08aab.html ). GC said something about seeing Detroit, Oakland and Wright State as well. But we're not on Wright State's schedule this year ( http://wsuraiders.cstv.com/sports/m-bas ... sched.html ). Anyone else have any ideas on any other opponents?

Wright State still could happen, because besides the tourney they play in Puerto Rico none of their other OOC games are listed. I heard something that we may play at Xavier. Xavier a few weeks ago released their home and away games in and out of conference, and while we weren't list it did say two OOC games TBA

Good point, I didn't look at it that closely but now that you mention it, that could be the case. I wonder if we are in line for a travel tournament this year (ex: Hawaii, Alaska or Puerto Rico) or to a host school somewhere out of the region? I believe most teams are able to play in a travel event such as those every four or five years. In (somewhat) recent years, BG won the Nextell Challenge in Hawaii in ‘99 by topping Hawaii, beat teams like Mississippi State and Nebraska in Puerto Rico in the Ameritas Classic during the ’96-’97 season, and also defeated Ole Miss in Alaska in the Top of the World Classic in ‘01. The last time we played in a travel tournament was the Rainbow Classic back in Hawaii back in 2003. We didn’t play in a tournament the following season and the last three years we’ve played in host tournaments at Virginia Tech, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Cincinnati where, funny enough, in most cases we played better against the host teams (beat VT & UC) than some of the other opponents. I always enjoy playing in those type of events because it's nice to play different teams from the norm. I also wish we'd schedule a game a year with a Big Ten opponent. I know we almost always have to play them on the road and they usually won’t return a game, but I still enjoy them for the most part. If we didn’t got to Ohio State in 1994, we wouldn’t have beaten the Buckeyes because they sure as hell weren’t coming to Anderson Arena to play us.

Hopefully it will be on a Saturday and can make it a weekend with the BG and the Steelers.

One road trip might be Central Arkansas as I beleive we still "owe" that school a trip. Certainly a very winnable road game. And then a home Bracketbuster. Detroit at home; Duquesne on the road as listed. Ohio State on the road. Illinois State?

Sorry if these thoughts are posted elsewhere.
