ohhhh im so happy i found this discussion. move in day freshmen year, my dad and mom helped me move in. my dad was just content on just throwing all the crap in my room and letting me organize it while my mom wanted to help organize. he finally convinced her to leave and the last thing he said to me was, "son, always have protection, this is going to be the best time in your life." well i met my roomate and we had several black kids on our floor that lived on both sides of us. his country ass said something like "ive never seen a black person in person." i just started laughing my you know what off.

ok so as the night goes on, its pretty much my first time ever drinking, me and a guy that lived down the hall from me, we both brought home beautiful young classy bg women. he takes his girl into his room and i was alone with mine. low and behold, my roomate comes stumblin in see's something im sure he never would have wanted to see. so ya id say one of my best college stories was on my very first night there.

Move-in Day

Post by Synthetic »

Well, my daughter's is August 23rd (Frosh...) I am not looking forward to it at all - although with my extreme military background, I cannot wait to 'fight over' the carts... heh just kidding.

Do parents typically stick around and have dinner with their children on Frosh move-in or just leave and let them get settled?

Thanks in advance...

I think it depends. As a freshman, I'm sure she'll want you to leave to get settled, and you'll want to stay forever. (Of course, if you're a BG grad and are coming from far away, you may just want to stay forever anyway, even if she doesn't want you to stay for dinner.)

And if you do have some BG in your background, it would be a crime for you to not take her to Myles or Pollyeyes to teach her what BG is all about...

Well, I do not have BG in my background (Ohio State Alum here) but alot of my friends and their children are Alums of BGSU... Hence the reason I steered my child there... She will be in Arts Village and is incredibly excited for the experience and the school!

Well first of all I have to say I'm a little bit jealous about the Arts Village thing. I've been over there a couple of times and it is very nice.

As far as the parents hanging around thing, when I moved in I had things to do that night, but my parents did hang around for a bit and help me get things unpacked.

Oh, and I second the remark about Myles. I didn't end up going there until a couple of years into school. I regret that very much.

And, of course, this wouldn't be a post on AZZ if someone didn't encourage you to come up to a football game and check out the tailgating.

Fall of 96 @ 8am...I claimed to have allergies which allowed me to be one of 10 freshman enjoying the comforts of founders....moving into founders was an extreme pain in the ass because there is no parking whatsoever. parents dumped all my s**t in my room. finished moving stuff by 10:30. mom was crying and dad was ready to get the hell out. 15 minutes after they left my roommate (who I had met in person for the first time) we're smoking joints in our room and blowing the smoke outside our window facing wooster. went to taco bell for lunch and never looked back.
Would you like some chapagna?

Travel plans changed...

Post by Synthetic »

I live in the deep south now and flew back to take my daughter to O-reg earlier this month (with the knowledge that I would be out of the country during Frosh Move-in - so her mother and step-father would assist her there). Well HOORAY! I was able to alter the schedule with our European division and will fly back in the night before Frosh Move-in!

I have told her mother about this but am intending on surprising my child by just showing up that morning, then taking them all to dinner that night.

Even though our son won't be "moving in" since we live about 5 minutes from the campus, he will be attending the freshman events on the 23rd and 24th. We just finished our two days (though somewhat abbreviated) of O-Reg and he has his official first semester schedule for BGSU!! WOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! He's pretty excited about it too and actually expressed some regrets for not living on campus, though the living at home was HIS idea. He has friends who are living on campus, so I'm SURE he will get plenty of "on campus life" experience, too!! That will be the third Falcon in our family...now if we could just get our daughter to buy into it...("I want to move OUT of BG, Mom!!"....but she's only a sophmore in high school....plenty of time to "work her over" on this!!) :-D
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

All he needs to do is contact the Office of Residence Life at 372-2011 and we can make some on-campus living arrangements for him.

All he needs to do is go to Uptown and make his own on-campus "living arrangements". Much better than calling Res Life...

It's much cheaper on the ol' expenses if he lives at home, thank you very much!

Hey - you got to feed the kid whether he lives on campus or not.

And the money you save on the room gets put into tires, oil changes, and $4 per gallon gasoline.

It all comes out the same 8-)

We live 10 minutes from campus. He buys his own gas. I'll take my chances on the tire and oil changes. :P

Sorry ladies and gents, but after 22 years and countless alcohol and other substance binges in my 4 years at BG, I cannot remember much about move in day. LOL. Freshman year I was in Prout Hall...how I ended up there I'll never know. I certainly wasn't an honor student and I don't play for the opposite team. Sophomore year I lived in Rogers and it was a total blast....every guy in every room in our wing had, um, some funny tobacco at all times. Take a big hit and blow it out thru a toilet paper roll stuffed with dryer sheets. The RA's had no idea what was going on. One thing about Rogers...there was a fire alarm at least 2 times every week....usually at night.

JR year I live in the Lehman Ave apartments right by the tracks...down the tracks from Racketeer's which was mighty convienent! SR year was East Merry...a freakin great year. It was tough leaving that street after graduation in May 1990.

Ah....memories. :-)
