The best lots for tailgating are probably the lots in between Heinz Field and PNC Park, but the lot closest to Heinz Field of those would obviously be best. It should be pretty wide open at 9 in the morning on a Saturday. :-D

I would suggest the gold lot closest to Heinz Field.

Good choice. For Steeler games we tailgate in the lot across the street from Jerome's bar. Easy access to a bathroom. Rib Fest is usually going on Labor day weekend as well.

My wife and I are coming in on Friday. I plan on being there early Sat morning.

Yup - anywhere in those gold lots and we'll be in good shape. I don't expect they'll be too crowded that early. Grille 36 is open mornings before Pitt games also.

I'll be there as early as anybody wants to be there. I'll probably have some family with me as well.

Anyone know what the tailgating is like there for Pitt games? If we can meet in this "gold" lot, that would be cool. We are 2 hours away unless I drive 75 mph+...which is a very good possibilty on opening day :-D Told Mrs Freak we need to be on the road by 7:15 at the latest...puts us there by 9:15 barring any unforseen stuff. Mapquested Heinz Field and it comes up at 100 Art Rooney Ave.

I considered a hotel but with the price of gas, the budget needs to be watched very closely this season.

Can't wait to get the season going...BEAT PITT.

We haven't started planning, but I think the wife and I are arriving Friday and staying in the area until Monday or so. Less than 46 days until the official "stealing a corner of Freak's grill" season begins!!! :-D

I'm not really sure if I'm going to be going to this game or not, it depends on several plans yet to be made. I'd definitely like to get to Heinz for this game though. I think this could be a really good season for us and I'm starting to get pumped. 46 days to go, really not that far off.

Yeah, besides my wife and I, there will probably be some family with me. Some of this family is loyal to Pitt  . Were heading to the Pirates and Brewers on Sunday.

Pitt usually doesn't come close to selling out, so I am not sure what the tailgating will be like. With it being Labor day weekend and the stadium not within walking distance of campus, I am uncertain about their student attendance either.

There are high expectations from Pitt fans this year on this team

I was in Pittsburgh this week and noticed the Titanic exhibit is going on at the Carnegie Science Center. My wife has been bugging me about going to that when it is around so maybe i can convince her we should go to the game on Sat and then the Titanic thing on Sun. That might get me to the game.

I am getting more and more excited for this game. There are a lot of BG Alum in Western PA. I hope we have a good turnout.

Now you'e thinking, WH! In 2005 for our 11th anniversary, I promised Mrs Freak an all expenses paid trip to beautiful Muncie, IN. There just happened to be a BG/Ball State game going on at the same time! Imagine that! She got some very nice bling bling so it worked out well.

Not to mention Kenny Lewis, Marques Parks, Shane Steffy and Nate Waldron all from the greater Pittsburgh area. Angelo Magnone is from Steubenville which isn't far from Da Burgh.
