BGHS Quarterback commits to Ball State

Couple of quotes I found interesting...

"What set Ball State apart is there was a sense of urgency and a sense of intensity in their day-to-day activities,” Mershman said. “Their activities are intense. The lifting is intense, the 7-on-7s are intense and the practices are intense. Everything is 100 percent every single day."

“Coach Hoke is a players coach. As a former linebacker, he’s extremely aggressive. He’s a tough guy and a good disciplinarian, and he doesn’t let knuckleheads in his program."

And for the record, he did have an offer from BG. "He didn’t choose BGSU because he 'needed to get out of town. I have a lot of respect for Bowling Green. If I lived in Muncie, Ind., I’d be coming to Bowling Green.'”

Good for him. I did play-by-play for the first varsity game he started as a freshman.

I understand the sentiment - I didn't seriously consider any schools inside of 2 hours from where I grew up.

Glad I did.

Good to see the obvious question (why not BG) was asked and answered forthrightly. Anyone who has seen Coach Hillman in action knows that the lifting is intense at BG!

Saying Aaron Hillmann isn't intense is like saying Rosie O'Donnell isn't fat.

Hoke and Brandon both became head coaches in 2003. Brandon is 38-24 (2-0 vs. Ball State) while Mr. Aggression is 22-37.

Also, a simple Google search turned up Ball State football players being charged with driving while intoxicated and burglary within the past year.

But the program that Hoke took over was in MUCH worse shape then the program Brandon took over. Also, each has one MAC championship game appearance, so they are equal in that regard.

I wasn't posting that to knock Brandon by the way. Just liked Hoke's philosophy.

I don't recall Ball State playing in the MAC title game under Hoke? The last two years it's been CMU, it was NIU in 2005, TSUN in 2004 and BG in 2003 from the West.

 Dammit, I did some quick research and I thought the release about Hoke signing an extension said they played in the title game. Maybe they messed it up and meant to say they played in a bowl game. I didn't think that sounded right either Freak. Thanks for correcting me.

Good luck to him. He used to live near me. He has worked really hard to get where he is, and have the ability to make his own decisions about his life. I'll be rooting for him, except when he plays BG.

I can definatly understand the kids choice, I mean when I was younger I always thought I would go to UC for college, and then when I got to high school I realized I wanted to leave Cincy for college, not too far away, but not close like UC or even Miami.

Luckily I found this nice college campus three hours north of Cincy on I-75 with a really good sports management program and a football stadium you can see from the highway :-D

So, is practice at BSU "intense?" No, but seriously, I hope he does well there. I totally understand wanting a change of scenery.

I'll be rooting for this kid, except for when he plays us of course. He attends my church occasionally, and from my interactions with him he seems like a great kid who has his head on straight. He's the kind of kid you love to root for.
