The thing that's always bugged me about all the freebies and whatnot that we give out is how much it actually works against selling season tickets. For years I never bought season tickets, because I didn't need to. There was actually a season a few years ago where I got in for free to every single game. I'd usually just come out, tailgate, and somewhere along the way an extra ticket would show up.Class of 61 wrote:I don't like the "for free" deals personally... It's not just that I've paid out for our season tickets...it's that people who get tix for free have no "urgency" to go to the game....Weather looks shaky, other plans conflict etc. all result in empty seats. I'd rather have them charging the $4.50 per ticket. At least then there might be some, "don't want to waste money..let's go" attitude.BGDrew wrote:I've been told that the AD was offering a lot of the different businesses and very large groups tickets at around $4.50/ticket. The UAW alone is offering each employee up to at least 5 tickets for free.Globetrotter wrote:How many tickets have already been sold?BGDrew wrote:Considering how many tickets have already been sold, I'd be very surprised for something <26,000.
The way we continue to give so many tickets away really has made it so that actually owning season tickets is a bad bargain. The only thing we really get out of the deal is the same seats each week. Now I had no problems re-upping my season ticket package because I look at it as a donation to the athletic department more than anything else, but my point remains. From purely a bargain standpoint all of our freebies & promotions actually decrease our season ticket sales, IMO.
Of course I think a lot of these freebies and whatnot are being done to get people into the stands for the stupid NCAA attendance policies.
I just wish we could sell out every game without practically begging people to get into the stands. Spending the day at a BG football game & tailgate is just plain fun, I don't know why we have to beg people to come out and see that.
