IF PLANNING ON ATTENDING THE PITT GAME...

Post by PITTMAN »

Sorry I'm starting a new thread, but it seems important. It looks as if the August 30th Pirate game got picked up by Fox.. The Pirates website has it on fox with a TBD time, ESPN has the Pirate game slated for a 3:55 start on Fox and other posters on the Pitt board just began discussing it... This 4 o'clock start is horrible either way you look at it; if Pitt/BG stays at noon, the game won't be over until a little over an hour before first pitch... If the Pitt/BG game to 8, that leaves (roughly) an hour to an hour and a half b/w the end of the baseball game and the 8 o'clock kickoff... Both stadiums share parking lots, so it seems as if neither one is possible...

I hope for the the sake of people making this trip that I'm wrong, but it wouldn't suprise me to see a Sunday kickoff and a bigger TV draw (ESPN/2)..

This post was just to make sure that you keep an eye on the situation..

Thanks Pittman. A Sunday kickoff...interesting if that happens. Will definitely keep an eye on any threads you start. Appreciate the heads up and assistance.

I don't see a Sunday kickoff. How does this really affect us? If our game ends at 4 we shouldn't have any huge problems with the Pirates already underway right? I know nothing about the way the city handels this but, it seems to me we'll be fine getting there and just a tad slow getting out.

I really hope they don't move the kick-off to a night game or a Sunday. Would BG even consider a Sunday kick-off, with Minnestoa coming in on the following Saturday? Seems like a short turn-around after having playing a Big East team and a Big11 team coming in.

That is a great point. If BG plays on Sunday, that will definitely cut into their prep for Minnesota. They will watch film on Monday and Minnesota week starts on Tuesday. Maybe BG will get some $ to move to Sunday. Also if the game gets moved to ESPN or ESPN 2, BG will get more national exposure.

I hope they keep it on Saturday. Plus for selfish reasons I have tickets to the Bucs on Sunday.

I don't see them moving the kickoff from Noon. Even on a Saturday afternoon, the Bucs will be so far out of the race by then that nobody's going to that game. Even if it will be Serbian National day or Orlando Merced bobblehead day or whatever other BS promotion they pull out of their asses.

Sunday kickoff is worst possible scenario for the team. No me gusta.

Doesn't matter. The Pirates are the prime tenant and they require that the lots be vacated 2 hours prior to game time (which is why the game was scheduled for noon).

Who knows what will happen now. Could be at noon, could be as late as 9PM, could be on Sunday.

In most cities this wouldn't be a problem, but PNC and Heinz share a parking lot.... If this game stays at noon, there could be more people on the north shore than a Steeler game...

The promotion has something to do w/ Willie Stargell, I'm not sure what... It had been discussed on the Pitt boards that BG wouldn't comply to a Sunday kickoff for the very reason you mention; Minnesota..

9 o'clock kickoff may be the only other option...

Regarding Rivals or Scout; Pitt's Rival board has better coverage of both football and basketball, but Scout has a more active message board, which is what I read anyway... So I'd go Scout IMO...

And this hasn't been confirmed by anyone... There are some links on Pitt's Scout site that shows ESPN's TV listing and has the Pirates at 3:55 on Fox and the Pirates website has a TBD but being aired by Fox... We shall see.

Thanks for the info - I didn't know about the 2 hour requirement.

My point about the Pirates sucking and nobody caring once training camp kicks off still stands. :-D

I suppose 9:00 PM wouldn't really bother me that much. We could easily find an ancillary lot to tailgate in all day. Or do the roof of the parking garage thing that Pittman suggested.

If the Pirates game is being televised by FOX it will be a 3:55 PM ET start. The only games FOX airs are in that time slot each week.

If there is really a deal with the parking lot that it must be vacated 2 hrs prior to the baseball game I would guess that they'll be moving the football game. When or to what time I have no idea, but they'll probably be moving it.

I know if I were going to the game (which I'm not) I would be hoping for a night game...more tailgating :)

I could be wrong but.....

Last year the Reds had a game scheduled for a Saturday Fox game at 3:55 against the Padres in August. But the Reds were so far out of contention, that they did not televise the game on Fox.

Obviously, Fox owns the television rights to the game, could it be it is a tentative National game? Meaning they could just hand it over to FSN Pittsburgh and then the game would begin at 7:05 or 7:30?

My guess is Pitt. has been in contact with them and knows more than we do, otherwise they wouldn't have released the 12 O'Clock start time.
