He was fourth on the team in yards and catches and second in TD catches. Other guys stepped up later in the season but he was still playing just as much. How many games did you watch last year? I just don't see where you get the idea that he was any less of an impact. His catches went down late in the year, but they were also running the ball more.moneymaker02 wrote:the coachs decision to play the other guys over parks last year spoke for them. the other recievers have surpassed him with their play, they actually CATCH the ball during games. why do you have a love fest with marques parks?? its not like he was a stand out player that dissapeared. he was a number 3 reciever that got passed up by better talent.
Anthony Turner is moving to WR

As far as Turner goes I'm hoping that this isn't really a change. I want to see him in the same role that he was in during the Akron game last year. QB/RB/WR combo. I don't want him to become our full time #3 WR. I think that job should go to Jermiah Kelley. Based on the games I watched in person last year and doing my own breakdown of player skill and talent he seemed like a very talented WR and made some pretty sick plays when given the opportunity to touch the ball.
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

Don't leave Keston Cheathem out of the discussion of WR's. He was slowed by injuries last year, but he's got the potential to be the big physical guy like Hawk was.
The group of WR's we have right now is every bit as good IMHO as the Magner, Sharon, Sanders, Hawk, McGrady group in '03 and '04.
So far as AT goes...give him 10-15 touches a game at TB, QB and WR. He was dominant at times last year playing that "slash" role.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
I just hope CP can have a healthy and productive senior season. Kid deserves it.

I do agree that Cheatem also looked good in limited action. Not as good as Kelley IMO, but still pretty talented. I disagree though that our WR's now are as good as Magner, Sharon, Sanders, Hawkins, and McGrady. CP is close to Magner but hasn't had the luck with staying injury free. Freddie is my favorite player & very clutch, but he's not at all the level of WR Sharon was. Parks is defn not the Sandman, averaging 20yards a catch & making huge plays out of short passes. I also think Hawkins & McGrady were VERY solid 4 & 5's better than what we have now. Don't get me wrong we are pretty dang strong at WR going into this season, but I wouldn't say every bit as good as the 03 or 04 team.
I agree that AT needs to get his touches as a mix in those 3 positions. My favorite role for him tho is the QB where he takes the S-GUN direct snap and runs, or throws the quick hitter, or fakes the quick hitter and runs, or fakes the draw and throws deep!

No doubt. CP would have monster seasons if these dang injuries didn't happen. Even with the games missed, CP puts up solid numbers.1987alum wrote:Amen to that.TG1996 wrote:I just hope CP can have a healthy and productive senior season. Kid deserves it.
I agree about AT as well....list him however you want. Line him up all over the place and get him the ball. When AT is on the field, anything can happen. He's a great kid and wants that MAC trophy badly. That's good.
Ransom....Man, I hope he is 100% or close to. I only saw the 2nd half of the MN game and then at MSU, he was carried off the field at halftime. With Ransom, Geter and Bullock, we've got a pretty solid stable of backs.
Brighton....this kid is just like Cole Magner and Kurt Gerling...tough as nails. He has a bright future.
As far as Parks? Marques has had some great games and some not so...but he is DEFINITELY a contributor to the team.
Our WR corps is deep and talented. We are not short on playmakers.
For me, the guy to really keep an eye on is Chris Wright....Damn, too bad we can get 8 WR's on the field.
JUST TEE THE BALL UP!!! BEAT PITT!

M Maker, What set Marques Parks back was the broken leg he suffered a couple of seasons ago. Is he a spectacular #1 receiver? No, but he'll be a solid performer at WR...and, if he IS having a bad day, we've got more depth at WRmoneymaker02 wrote:the coachs decision to play the other guys over parks last year spoke for them. the other recievers have surpassed him with their play, they actually CATCH the ball during games. why do you have a love fest with marques parks?? its not like he was a stand out player that dissapeared. he was a number 3 reciever that got passed up by better talent.
than probably any other position on the team. In our offense, it's not uncommon for FOUR WR's sets, so the "#3 guy" is pretty important to our offense.

I honestly thought AT was going to be a WR, not RB after the Kent game. He is around a Darren McFadden height but not as strong, seems to me more of a WR size. I bet he plays his "slash" role and becomes our best slot receiver and has a good enough season to get NFL interest at receiver.
And yeah, our WRs are stacked. Pronty has always seemed to me to be waiting to explode, but he could have a big year with his speed. He was also playing in special teams in spring practice at both returning and blocking punts and he did block two on his own. Chris Wright came on big in the last few games of 07, I expect him to be right there with Freddie Barnes. It's such a deep group that somebody super-talented like Cheathem, Parks, Pronty, or Kelley may not get a chance to shine.

Agreed. I think he has a ton of potential, he just needs to stay healthy. I'd put him in BG's top 3 for wide out every game.cw08 wrote:I don't know where people get the idea that Parks is not a good receiver. He had a pretty stellar year and caught a pretty big OT touchdown against Minnesota. He moves well after the catch and has a lot of upper body strength.

you know, the offense really does come down to the Offensive Line. We've got a very good QB, good RBs, some really kick-ass WRs, and a utility slash player that does it all. If we are able to block well up front, this offense will be at least as good as last year, possibly even better.
The way I see it, we need to score at least 4 touchdowns a game to win typical MAC games. This offense is capable of doing that, unless if the OL breaks down.

If we can block the offense should be better than last year, considering everyone is back but the O-Line.bgsufalcon24 wrote:you know, the offense really does come down to the Offensive Line. I will pay you a billion dollars if AT gets NFL interest as a receiver. I think he'll have a really great year doing all kinds of different things for our team, but he's not going to the NFL. A lot of people around here constantly over-estimate our skill players' NFL chances.MarkL wrote: I bet he plays his "slash" role and becomes our best slot receiver and has a good enough season to get NFL interest at receiver.
Roll Along!
Agreed. I could see him possibly having a career in Canada or the AFL based on his athleticsm. As for Parks, look for him to have a big game on 8/30 in front of his family and friends.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:I will pay you a billion dollars if AT gets NFL interest as a receiver.
