My guess is Pitt. has been in contact with them and knows more than we do, otherwise they wouldn't have released the 12 O'Clock start time.
Or FOX picked the schedule of games they wanted in Aug after it was already announced.

It's still listed as TBD on MLB and the Pirates site (the only game listed TBD that day), which probably means that they are working it out because there is a conflict.

I would agree that Pitt and the Pirates had already had conversations about this and the Fox thing is merely business as ususal, that is, all Saturday games could potentially be at 3:55.

But, if the Pirates game does get moved, isn't the easiest, least-disruptive, change to our game simply to move the kickoff to 11:00 AM? Game over by 2:30.

It would be an attendance disaster... Pitt has some very, very loyal fans, but there is only a small group of them... 11am game, no matter how hyped the season is, would be rather empty.. If this does happen, I would expect an 8:30 or 9 o'clock start.... I am no insider or have any information, but with only 6 home games, Pitt can't afford to have one of those games played at 11 am...

Whatever they do, can they just figure it out already?

I'm sure I'm not the only one (and BG fans aren't the only ones) who has a night in a hotel banking on gametime. If it's an 8:30 kick, there's no need to drop $120 or whatever for a hotel Friday night. Not to mention other plans for a long weekend.

If they don't know, then keep it TBA. Don't announce it as noon, then take it off the board because of a baseball game that's been scheduled since December.

TG -- Pitt still shows the game at noon, as does BG.

I think this whole thread is simply speculation.

+ 1

One or two nights makes a difference on whether I bring the kids also. Two nights, plus three extra tickets and food for three more (one is a teenage boy with a black hole for a stomach) makes a big dent in the budget. But a zip over for one night and back home is much more doable for a family of five.

A previous poster stated that this is speculation, which is true... But it is now official on the Pirates website that the game is 3:55 airing on FOX.. When the noon kickoff time was released, this Pirate game was scheduled for 7:05... This was not scheduled since December as someone else noted...

In fact, I only noticed this yesterday, but someone said it may have been changed late last week or the weekend...

Again, maybe this won't affect our kickoff time at all, but if anyone has ever been to Pittsburgh and its North Shore, it would be almost impossible to play two games down there.. Its never happened (that I can remember) since the two stadiums opened b/c they do share parking lots... W/ the Pitt crowd leaving the same time the Pirate crowd is coming in = DISASTER..

Please feel free to look at www.pirates.com , click on their schedule, and look at the August 30th start time... While the Pitt start time that I'm suggesting is speculation, it is unrealistic to think that our noon kickoff won't be affected... I'll try and post anyting if I find anything further.. Don't be suprised to see a Sunday kickoff w/ BG getting extra $$..

If the 3:55 Pirates opening pitch does not change, our kickoff almost certainly will. They just need to make it official ASAP or attendance will seriously suffer. People will just say screw it and make other plans for the holiday.

I think the Sunday kickoff is a definite possibility, but I'd rather see a night game on Saturday. That would be tits.

If they have to move the kickoff time, please make it later in the day or Sunday afternoon. I was going to miss part or most of the game because I work until 2, but if they have to move it, I might actually get to see the game. That will be exciting!

If you played a night game, you would run into the same problem as we did w/ the 12p start.. Pirate game starts at 4, with their pitching, the games take forever, (get out of there maybe 6:30-7); have people get to their cars and actually leave would be closer to 7:30; one half of a hour before kickoff...

The only way is if the game is played at 9pm Saturday, Sunday night (Pirates play at 1:35 Sunday) or, hell, even Monday (Holiday)... At this point, I have no idea, but if the Pirate time sticks, prepare for our kickoff time to change...

Actually, there isn't an "only way" there are two plausible options and a few silly options available to the decision makers:

If the time changes. . .
plausible options
+11am kickoff to accommodate the parking lots
+9pm kickoff ditto above

and now the silly options:
+Sunday night kickoff which would hinder BG's game week prep
+Monday ("it is a holiday") which BG would be batsh!t crazy to agree to unless Pitt paid for a remodeling of The Doyt since we have our home opener which IS scheduled for 7:30pm the following Saturday
+Move the game to BG

I like the 3rd silly option best.

The original one is in the Strip District of PGH. It is only about 2 miles from the stadium. There are other bars in the strip area as well. There is one at Heinz Field, but go to the original one if you can. I believe it is open 24 hours as well.

The sandwiches are awesome. Here is some more info.
