It sounds like he's attempting to preemptively justify another rough year for an athletic director that just fired UT's two other high profile coaches.

I don't see the West being head and shoulders above the East at all.

That's a great point, Joe. I didn't think of that angle. The West is the better of the two right now, but not by much.

Definitely. The 3 co-champions of the East (BG, Miami and Buffalo) from last year return most of their players. ESPN predicts Kent to get to their first bowl in 36 years while Akron and Temple have compiled the best recruiting classes in the league over the past couple years if the experts are to be believed. CMU and BSU are solid but not unbeatable, and the rest of the West division teams are dangerous but filled with plenty of question marks.

You know thats pretty laughable...the first bowl statement. why? the total number of bowl games has gone up about 14 times in 35 years...its really not a statement with much meaning since there are way to many bowl games...when what is need is a NATIONAL ChAMPIOnsHIP.

Certainly. The two divisions are pretty comparable.

West
Central Michigan - great offense, serviceable defense
Ball State - same as CMU, minus big wins at home
Western Michigan - same as Ball State, minus consistency
Toledo - great offense, horrific defense
Eastern Michigan - crap
Northern Illinois - crap, but with a renewed purpose (new coach + possible post tragedy motivation)

East
Miami - bad offense, good defense
Temple - same as Miami, minus winning culture
Bowling Green - great offense, mediocre defense
Buffalo - same as Bowling Green, minus winning culture
Kent State - mediocre offense, mediocre defense
Ohio - same as Kent
Akron - crap

Central Michigan is the closest thing to a complete team in the MAC, and they are the two time defending MAC Champs. Outside of them, I don't see what the big difference between the two divisions is. The West has two really poor teams in EMU and NIU, and while the East could have as many as four bad teams in a worst case scenario, the good teams in the East certainly match up with the good teams in the West.

Anatomy of an Upset Vol. 2.

Realistically , I think the best we can hope for is that our passing game is potent enough to put pts on the board and make this a respectable game. This game honestly the more I think about it could get BC ugly from last year. It has that potential with our lack of depth at D-line now with all the shenanigans of several weeks ago and a virtually new O-line that hasn't gelled yet. This Pitt team is certainly no Minny. Prognostications aside, we'll know just how good or not good Pitt is supposed to be in about 27 or so odd days.

I love how positive you are once again. Maybe BG should just forfeit since they have no chance of winning. Matt Cavanaugh is the O-coordinator at Pitt. Enough said. Pitt has a new O-line as well. I don't think their offense is potent enough to get ugly. BG needs to score early and keep McCoy off the field. This game is winnable

I think we're gonna hang at least 150 yards rushing up on the Panthers....call it a hunch...or maybe a delusion, but that's the number I'm seeing.

Do that and we wiin....

Their D-line is pretty nasty...

I think our advantage is our passing game against their back 7. I think Brandon knows this, and I think pass-wacky will be the theme of the day. All I can hope for is that we can sprinkle in enough successful running plays here and there to keep them off balance.

I don't think we'll have 15 rushing attempts in the game against Pitt. We need the best of Tyler Sheehan to win that game, because he'll be hoisting it 50-60 times, IMO.

That's not even accurate. He was definitely called after 12pm...

Thats what I'm expecting, the same type of game plan we used vs Minny last year. Just like that game we'll need a fast start

i have no problem with that unless they drop 8 like miami did when we continued the try to throw. not making adjustments like that is what ticked me off the most about our losses under brandon.

And they will do that. The running game will need to be in the plans or the same thing will happen. They'll rush the edges and stuff the middle. Any D-Coordinator with a brain will do the same thing.
