100 Tickets!!!!

Post by Class of 61 »

Called our ticket office this morning to order 4 for Joyce+ me, Ed + Michelle....out of curiousity, I asked how the ticket sales were going... they said "around 100"!!! WOW!!!

I know it's around Christmas, but this would be an absolute stunner to say the least... On the other hand, they hadn't started student ticket sales yet, so things hopefully will pick up....

When we talk about ticket sales and bringing crowds to games, this could be a killer in the future if this doesn't improve.

Wow, that is very disturbing news. I'm sure that number will ramp up in the next week or so, but I would've thought we'd have a better initial push. In fact, when I saw the thread title, I thought you were going to say YOU bought 100 tickets!!!

When I got off the phone with my wife with the final OK to go to the game, I did two things immediately. 1) I clicked my mouse to confirm our flight reservations. 2) I picked up the phone, called the ticket office and ordered my tickets. Heck, I might've been the first one to order.

I hope our fans come through. This would be a bit of an embarrassment, as well as have a lasting (negative) impact.

I would temper my expectations if I were you. I don't think we're going to take a big crowd to Mobile. It would be out of character. Check out the crowds for the home games, that weren't 15 hours away.

Great point...maybe if the U would arrange some packages it would help.

I continue to hope we can get a few thousand people down there. The announcement is barely 48 hours old. This is a big undertaking, and it requires some planning.

In my case, I am still trying to make precisely sure how many people will be joining me. I expect other people are trying to make similar decisions.

I actually think we travel pretty well. After all, for so many of us, every home game is a trip.

Look what we did at Ohio State last year... was it seven thousand or eight thousand tickets?

The Oklahoma game was probably a better test of us. Anyone know how many tickets we sold for that game?

I believe there were 3-4000 in Oklahoma. The BG sections looked pretty small, but I guess every section does in an 80,000 seat stadium. I'm not sure how many of those tickets were bought through our ticket office, though. A number of our fans were BG alums that lived in Kansas, OK, and N. Texas. It was nice to see a lot of them out there, and I would expect to see some of them in Mobile (they were pretty pumped!).

And I wouldn't worry too much about our ticket sales just yet. I know that I and a large group of people are also trying to figure out how many we'll need, and you can't expect people to just jump up and buy their tickets right after the game is announced (unless you are 1987alum and know its just you and Noah! ).

My guess? We get 10,000 there with 6,000 tickets sold through our office (we're going to get a lot of local alums and players families coming).

The U is investigating a bus trip. The grueling schedule alone spells out the difficulties.

* Depart BG at 9:00 p.m. on Monday, December 20
drive straight to Mobile (with several quick meal stops) - 15 hours
* Arrive in Mobile around 12:00 noon on December 21
* Stay 2 nights in or around Mobile
* Depart Mobile at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 23
drive straight to BG (with several quick meal stops) - 15 hours
* Arrive in BG around 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 23

I see that as a nice goal. Miami sold about 6,000 tickets last year.

I, too, would urge caution at this point. We are trying to get our family organized...14 tickets- or 20, who is bringing a girlfriend....????? and haven't ordered any yet.

So I bet a lot of that is going on now that people have the alumni news and where to stay etc.

We took some large and vocal crowds to California so I have confidence in the orange and brown to make some noise in Mobile! :supz:

It's just a pain in the butt time for a game. Two days before Christmas means either you shell out a ton for airfare, or end up driving home on Christmas Eve and not arriving until late. I'm sure this interferes with a lot of peoples' plans for the holiday.

RC:

I think the schedule thing is a bigger pain than the travel. I found a fair number of flights for less than $225 from multiple locations to Pensacola and New Orleans, both very short drives to Mobile.

But the calendar is not friendly, that's true. Same with the MCB for us, though. It was very, very difficult to pull Noah away from his mother & sister (not to mention his new toys!) the day after Christmas last year.

Just be sure to donate them to the athletic department so that they can be given to a youth organization in Mobile...you never know if the next Omar Jacobs is part of that youth group!!
