When you get right down to it, the only thing all of this speculation can do for BG is hurt their recruiting efforts. It has NO positive effects whatsoever!!!!

Right, because otherwise it never would have occurred to them.

He's not going to go to Utah and keep following in Meyer's footsteps. Football coaches are like brothers in a demanding family -- they need to make it on their own and create their own opportunities.

I also don't see Brandon going to BYU because, and especially given Utah's growth this year, it is not much of a move up prestige-wise nor opportunity-wise. Even if they threw more money at Brandon, I don't think he's going to jump at the first thing that comes along. You have to realize two things:

1. Brandon knows that his resume is watered down right now given the way his team has performed in nationally televised games. I would call the last two embarassing. If he can stay here next year, beat Boise and Wisconsin and run the table in the MAC, his stock will be much, much higher.

2. Again, excepting the Meyer/Utah situation, usually a coach is in his second job for quite a while. I don't think Brandon realistically wants to be hanging out in Morman country for an extended period of time, and I also think he will probably want to get to a BCS school that has a realistic opportunity of being competative (hence, teams like Indiana and Temple are out).

I completely disagree.

Brigham Young remains the best non-BCS opportunity in the country, bar none.

Really? That's a pretty strong statement. What about Notre Dame?

I for one will be very surprised if Gregg goes to any school.
Like someone else pointed out.. he hasn't won a big game on television yet.. and I for one think Brandon wants to see what he can do with Omar next year and possibly the year after.
If those two years go well.. he's gone.. and even if next year goes really well.. he's gone.
By the way.. we're all going to have to get used to this speculation about our coaches.
As long as we are a solid, if not great Mid-Major school.. this is going to be the scenario every three to four years.
The key is replacing out-going coaches with new ones that want to run the same successful system.. and improve upon it.
I don't care if we have to lose a coach ever few seasons as long as we keep winning ball games.

Who coached the team against Northwestern in the Motor City Bowl last year?

I was under the impression that Brandon did two things last year that Meyer never did at BG - won the West and a Bowl Game.

Transfer:

Go point. Brandon's track record in big games isn't very good, but he did put those two feathers in his cap.

Not as much as he wants to see his salary double. I'm sure he enjoys coaching Omar. Of course, Omar could break his leg, too.

The South Bend Tribune speculated yesterday that Indiana may want to take a look at Brandon or Miami's coach. Joe Novak had nice things to say.

I didn't see this posted anywhere.
