USA Today Sagarin ratings

Post by Sidejudge »

Here is more food for thought with the preseason Sagarin ratings from USA Today. For those who think and those who do not let me know if you can figure this ratings system out and let me know at the first tailgate! Enjoy if you can...

Judging from that page it seems that the game of chess has something to do with all this. I don't know, just going by what I see.

You two bozos just amaze. Were you not paying attention back in Algebra class in 9th grade?

OK , here you go as to the formula (and I really do not want to have to explain this to you again so pay attention the first time):

You start with the number 7.

Multiply by the number of times Teki shows up on the board and spouts his
"I hate BG" rhetoric.

Then you divide that by the square root of the number of beers hammb consumed at the Toledo tailgate last year.

Add 17 to that figure (thats the number of rootbeers Freakling 1 and Freakling 2 consumed at the same tailgate).

Subtract the number of "MAC Realignment" threads created by the OU fans on NCAAbbs

Use the derivative of pi(r)squared using the cosign of the tangent of an Isosceles triangle where the vertex angle =5 (if it equals 6 or more, go back to the beginning and start all over or you will really be way offbase).

Once you have this number, you start to look at the won/loss records of the various important teams out there - UC San Luis Obispo Banana Slugs and those types of teams. Multiply their won/loss record percentage by 0.17 and you should have the combination that will unlock the vault of knowledge that will allow you to comprehend Sagarin Ratings.

Add to that the number of times H2Oville Rocket posts about track and field and divide by the number of times he harasses Teki about his orange woman shorts. And now you should definitely know how to interpret the ratings.

If you really want the finite numbers, you have to go through Bleeding Oranges rants against Democrats, but there are so many of them, I'd prefer you just worry about learning the basics before you start in with all of that hooey-baloney conservative nonsense.

It really is that simple (or you could just ask Tony).

Oh, and I almost forgot - ROLL ALONG!

Isn't there a step where you factor in the volume of gas, in cubic feet, created by the Freaklings in the giant, post-rootbeer belch? I believe it only applies when determining the ranking of Independent teams with less than two years in D1A.

It's not that hard, you compare the ratings of the two teams and the one that is higher is supposed to win outright...don't forget to add 3 for the home team.

So in this case, Pitt should win by 14 against BG. During the season the ratings change, and the home field advantage amount will probably decrease to 2.

I don't bother with the ELO Chess modeling etc. The ratings are good enough to make fairly accurate predictions either straight up or against the point spreads.

Have used Sagarin ratings to win the office pool for the last two years.
There is no other way to finish a season other than yelling at the top of your lungs among BG's players holding the Peace Pipe aloft!

The problem with the Sagarin rankings early in the season is that, with no games played, the only things they can base teams off of is strength of schedule (upcoming), and name recognition. Why else would every team in the MAC be back in the 90's and above?

Here's the perfect case in point. 1-11 Minnesota is ranked ahead of 8-4 Bowling Green by almost 20 spots. That's nothing but small school discrimination.

Once we get to about Week #4, things will even out a bit.

ELO lip synched anyways.
