Looking for a little help as an "outsider". Me and a few people are coming to BGSU for the Minnesota game. What is a good time to get there and what is a good tailgate lot???
Are open flames and alcohol allowed?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!!!
Tailgating
There is really only one lot that wraps around the east side of the stadium, and everything funnels there, so it's easy to find. Once in the lot, it's pretty much a free-for-all with where you want to park, so find a spot and set up shop.
Open flames (grills, not flamethrowers
) are fine, just be smart about taking care of your space and extinguishing everything. Especially in early September when things are a little drier out. Alcohol is fine, too, but cups and coozies are usually recommended/encouraged. (Police roam the lot and usually are pretty cool about reminding you to "cover up" and such, as long as you're not being an azz about it.)
Oh, and if you're coming from Minnesota for the game, welcome... but you have to bring enough for all of us.

The tailgating lots basically just surround the stadium. If you've got directions to the stadium, you'll see plenty of lots to tailgate. All of them are University owned and in year's past the parking charge has been $5.
I plan to be in the lots by noon at the latest for that game. I know some on here have planned on staying out there with RVs, so pretty much any time that day is fine. It should bring out a huge tailgate crowd, so I would think the premium spots would start to get scarce by 4:00.
Open flames are allowed an encouraged.
I'm not even positive they'll let you in the lot WITHOUT alcohol, to be honest with ya
Honestly our tailgating scene is a blast because it is not tightly regulated like some places. Some university officials will probably come out with garbage bags sometime early in the afternoon and they just ask that you bag your trash. Other than that it's pretty much do as you wish, so long as nobody does anything stupid we should be able to keep it that way.

The best area to tailgate (to me) is northeast of the stadium. For years, we've tailgated in the grass area in front of the large hill. There's lots of room for yard games and tossing the football. It tends to fill up more with cars the closer it gets to kickoff though.
As for the best time, there's not really a definitive answer. It's basically whenever you want to get out there. For a game like Minnesota, I'd expect a decent crowd to gather by 1-2PM.
Bring all the alcohol you want, just be smart about it. I've never had any problems with BG officers in my 5 years of tailgating.

In years past that usually means they start Charging you 4 hours prior to gametimeJMasteller81 wrote:Thanks guys! We'll plan on being there around noon with plenty of tailgate essentials to share!
The BG athletic site said the tailgate lot opens 4 hours prior to gametime, but I get the feeling that is not the case?
Those lots never actually close, and in year's past if you got there earlier than that you were usually able to get in for free. Last year though they started charging earlier than the 4 hour time frame...that's probably outdated info.
Either way the lots never close so you'll be able to get there whenever you want.

Following your "bad" team to an away game says a lot about you as a fan. Very cool. The regular (and irregular) tailgaters here are a good group. Make sure you stop by and say hello. There's usually a big group at the north edge of the lot (walk toward the hill) and our South Carolina delegation plans on being there under the old school Scottish flag.JMasteller81 wrote:Perfect...thanks!
should be a great game, usually people don't give us too much grief cause...well...we're bad.
