BG football player in trouble
Absolutely unacceptable. All of this transpired after the Barrow et al incident, so they all knew they would be under the microscope for any mis-steps. And still these guys do something so stupid.

Keep an eye on Ryan's blog... he's got a copy of the police report and should have details shortly...
I've heard them... they're not good.

I want to know what the heck Brandon is doing to punish the TEAM when this stuff comes to light. I know he's kicked guys off the squad, and I know he's suspended players, but that is not how you run a disciplined program. Its great (and important) that he punishes the guys after the fact, but you have to punish the entire group if you want to prevent this stuff in the future. The team should police itself of these issues, and the way that happens is through team punishment.
When one of these guys screws up and does something dumb, fine suspend him. But while he's suspended let him sit and watch his teammates run the hill as punishment.
You have to create a mentality that it's bad for the entire team whenever somebody screws up so that they can help talk some sense into one another. I'm willing to accept that every program has issues. I'm willing to accept that you sometimes have to take chances on bad eggs, and hope they pan out. I'm willing to accept that the coaching staff cannot babysit these guys 24/7. I'm even willing to accept that some stuff will still seep through the cracks when you're doing your best effort to prohibit it. Unfortunately, this stuff is really starting to get to be a little too common to be considered isolated incidents that slipped through when a staff is doing everything in it's power to prevent it.
Brandon better realize that the only people that even support him now are those that think he's such a great guy and want to see him succeed...there aren't too many pure X's & O's football people on his bandwagon anymore. Dragging our program into the mud with off the field issues isn't going to endear him to a whole lotta people.
So, I ask...what's the buyout on that ridiculous new extension we gave him?

Hey guys, I know we're all upset about this and everything but let's be careful what we do say about these kids. They've got their parents, teammates and coaches as well as the university all coming down on them, hard. The last thing they need is for us to pile on. I'm not saying don't express your frustrations, just be mindful of your words. It is unacceptable, no doubt, but let's remember how many people are already telling them just how unacceptable it is.

You break the law and people are supposed to worry about feelings? Horse hockey!
I'm all for believing that they're good kids that did something stupid. We've all done it to an extent, learned and moved on. But right now, on the virtual eve of the season, three players went out and embarrassed the program. One of them was the star RB.
I hope they take their suspensions and learn from them, not only for themselves, but for each and every teammate they have at BG. It's a privilege to play D-1 football, act like it. That's all I ask.

Obviously, these guys all have natural athletic abilities way beyond the normal human. All they really lack is a work ethic that would leave no time for this kind of crap. That's where the coaching comes in. They need to have more fear and respect for the coaches. These kids apparently don't understanding the opportunities that are available to them. Damn, if I knew then what I know now..... My guess is that these kids are coddled, because of recruiting competition and because coaches are looking at making a jump to the next level rather than making a career at BGSU.

Vdub,
I understand your point but this is serious sh*t. Almost all these players are getting a free education and playing college football at the highest level. Is it too much to ask to keep your nose clean and think about the TEAM??
I agree with hammb....if you make the entire team feel the sting for the actions of a few, watch how quickly things change. The leaders of the team (Captains) need to put the hammer down and let the rest know this kind of stuff isn't tolerated at any time.
And yes, the coaching staff needs to be accountable as well. Pretty much everyone here knows I support Coach B and the staff 110% but I gotta say these incidents are bothering me in a BiG way.
The season opener is a few days away and these guys are out pulling stunts like this? Their minds should be on the season and how they can help the team win. One other thing...it isn't fair to the rest of the players that aren't doing this crap.
I can't tell you how disappointed I am right now....

More sarcastic self-flaggelation!!
Dear Coach Brandon:
It's all your fault. Just because every other major Division I school in the country has issues like this doesn't mean that we should too. Yes, this is a fishbowl that blows up small instances completely out of proportion, but so what? It's not like controlling the every move of over a hundred 18-23 year old kids from disparate backgrounds is hard or anything.
If a handful screw up, do you really expect us to focus on the vast majority that do the right thing day in and day out? No, we're going to publicize every Class A and B misdemeanor like it's Pearl Harbor and verabally pummel the heck out of everyone in our path until we're darn well satisfied that our pound of flesh has been had.

Just another learning experience for these young men. This shouldn't have to fall on the coaches' shoulders, these are adults who need to realize they should start acting like them. Our coaches can't babysit these kids 24/7, that's the sad reality.
A one game suspension is too light and I'll be disappointed if that's all these players receive as punishment. This is a chance for the program to show the other players the consequences of being immature, stupid and inconsiderate towards their teammates.
