A cheerleading question...

Post by Flipper »

Why are there only female cheerleaders at the women's basketball games? They have females at the men's games and the football games. Why should women's hoops be any different? Is this some sort of PC gender issue?

I think it's just a lack of men on the squad, not a gender issue.

From what I have heard and witnessed, there is a lack of bodies on the team this year. I know that there weren't a lot of people happy with the new coach last year, and they weren't happy being part of the team. So I imagine that the numbers are down, and we have always had a problem getting men on the squad anyways. I know because I cheered for a couple of years from 97-99. This just what I think is happening up there. But I can not confirm it.

falconboy...would you be happy if I were to make multiple posts about how our cheerleaders are far too small to be effective? Would you be mollified if I peppered them with multiple emoticons?

Just to let you all know, I am in my final year as a cheerleader at BG. In the past 4 years, there have been several changes to the program. Some good and some not so good, but this year, in my opinion has been the best yet as far as progress and the future of BGSU cheerleading is concerned.

Yes, we have two different squads, a co-ed which cheers at men's games and a all female squad which cheers at women's games. Both cheer at football games. Having an all girl cheerleading squad at women's games has nothing to do with a lack of men or because of any other gender issues. It has been one of the best things the program has done. Most universities have an all girl squad. It gives those girls who do all girl stunting/mounting in high school an opportunity to continue with it at the college level, and it helps divide up the amount of games (it's difficult to have the same squad cheer for all men's and women's games, especially when they are back to back!

Last year and in previous years, many people quit the squad for various reasons, one because it was difficult to cheer for both men and women. So far, this year we have only had one person quit out of both squads due to other reasons. Anyways, I just wanted to clear up the change to the cheerleading squads this year. Hope to see everyone at the games!!! You know I will be there!!! Go Falcons!!
Always there to cheer on the Falcons.......GO BG!!!!

I've never had any problems with the cheerleaders, they do a great job, and they're a lot better than the ones I had in HS. And besides, I'll take a small fry over a biggie fry most of the time anyways Flipper, look at it that way, :D .
