After reading all of that $@*!* about the football team, here is something that was posted on another board by a WMU poster that puts BG at the top of the heap! For us oldtimers, it is quite a memory. Even H20 will like this one!

That's just ridiculous. Makes Phelps' win in the 100m butterfly look like a landslide.

that was great! I've never seen Wottle's full race before. That makes me even more proud to say that I was a former BG trackster. Albeit, my best 800m was about 13 seconds off Dave's pace. Good stuff.

They made us run cross country down there once. AS I approached "The Hill" that was, at the time, incorporated into the course, I passed Wottle. Hadn't seen him since the beginning of the race but I passed him. Then I realized he had already finished going up and back down the hill and was heading for the stadium finish which meant i was about a half mile behind and had merely reached a point where the course doubled back on itself. That was depressing.

And Factman I am on record here as a frequent admirer of Falcon track- we were so bad then there wasn't even any rivalry in track- the MAC was a national power when I was there with a ton of Olympians and at least two other gold medalists in Tinker of Kent and Crawford of Eastern. Wottle's win prrobably wasn't as shocking as Crawford's but it was a great one-due had a kick.

What a comeback...it's amazing how as a trackster, you know when to stop conserving the energy and just blow it up! What a run!

He timed it perfectly but I've heard him say often that he thought he had really let it go too long. Wottle was interesting in that he had tremendous speed but probably could have run even longer distances well. Lots of middle distance guys become middle distance runners because they were slow quarter milers or slow 5,000 guys with a kick but Wottle almost had sprinter's speed.

Couldn't agree more H2O. Mid-distance runners have that crazy mix of slow and fast twitch fibers.
