Our puny little defense....

Post by Flipper »

did a really good job today...dontcha think? :-)

A lot has been written about a lack of character and disipline of late. Good to see the coaching staff and the players go out and show that deviant behavoir exhibited over the sunmer does not define the team as a whole

Exactly what I was thinking, Flip!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Nice effort by the D today. They were actually agressive today for the first time I can remember. Tackling was much better today for the most part.

Lets enjoy this one and not get too carried away. We will face much better offenses and QBs than we faced today. Plus, we won't see that many dropped passes or be given that many turnovers too many times the rest of the way.

Great win today guys, but lets not forget we always seem to play with the big boys and then cough up a stinker versus the likes of Miami or Tulsa along the way.

Amen.

This game was a big, fat middle finger to the hyperventilating peanut gallery that throws wild conniption fits every time a backup player transfers or the defense doesn't play like the 1985 Chicago Bears. Couldn't make me happier.

Congratulations to the players and coaches for showing what this team and program is all about.

Great game today all around. Take away the beginning of the game and Pittsburgh doesn't do anything. That is as good as the defense has look in years. We made Mccoy look pretty darn average. I was tiring of hearing about him.

The D was amazing today. Almost always in great position, and barely any missed tackles, which is a very nice change.

D was terrific! Missed a few tackles, but kept swarming and didn't stop til the whistle blowed. This is a very different defense than two, three, five years ago.

Both sides of the ball played with great discipline. I think 7 penalties for 54 yards including the one 15 yarder and I'll take that every week.

I think by far the most impressive aspect of our defensive performance today was how well the defensive line played today. I have been hard pressed to recall any time that I have seen our line get such a great push, especially against a bigger, BCS o-line. If they can keep up that kind of intensity all year long, this could be one very, very special season! :)

Perhaps the best defensive effort in the Gregg Brandon era. DL dominated the line of scrimmage. The LBs made the tackles. The secondary was in position to make ap lay on the ball most of the dya. The only defensive player who didn'jt have a particualarly good day, IMO, was Sanderson...he got beat quite a bit in coverag,e but it didn't matter. This defense showed up, and it was a nice change of pace. I've been pretty hard on them the past few years, so it's only fair that I give them props when they deserve it. Todya they deserve all the accolades...great effort!

As much time as this defense spent on the field early on, it was amazing they way they stayed tough and didn't give in to anything!!! The Defense is the surprise of the season so far!

Early on, I think Antonio Smith missed a few tackles and that led to some big runs. But after that, I was shocked at how well we shut down McCoy. I fully expected him to go for two bills or more. But he just had no where to go. We had guys in the hole every play. And then they made the tackle instead of whiffing. Truly a great effort by our defense today.

Congrats to Coach Ward as well...

The Sebo Center showed it's wears on Saturday. BG looked like the better conditioned team in the 2nd half. Our defense especially, we physically beat down their linemen.

The tackling was much improved, there was very little over pursuing by the LBs and DBs and I thought the downfield coverage was exceptional. With a spread offense coming in next week, our coverage has go to be ready to deal with 4-5 WR sets. I think they'll be ready.
