The "swinging gate" formation we ran....

if memory serves me correctly, that marked the return of "The Poe Ditch Rat" formation utilized by Moe Ankney.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Not sure about the connection to Moe, but it helped give us some confidence.

That formation is actually called "the Lonesome Polecat" devised by Tiger Ellison, the creator of the run and shoot offense when he was the coach at Middletown High School. He wrote a book aptly named, "Run & SHoot Offense". Tiger went onto coach for Woody at OSU. Awesome!

I remember it as well. I don't remember Moe's team ever getting a first down. Under Moe it was a cluster F**k.

Yes, I'm a bit annoyed Gregg Brandon -- bless his heart -- insists that it's a "Gator."

I saw the Poe Ditch Rat live in 1990.

(Not that it was much to see. Two sacks and an incompletion, as I recall.)

Have a sense of place, Coach! Call it the Poe Ditch Rat!

Yes, I'll be on the east side, on the 50. May catch Eilen Jewel downtown at the festival before the game, so tailgating is quite uncertain for this one.
