And I've been one of about 850 people in Buffalo's 8,000ish-seat arena.

It was quiet.

If it ends up being 4,700 seats, that sounds fine with me. If we sell it out a few seasons in a row, I'm sure we'll also have a booster willing to plunk down the cash to add more.

Another donation has been secured.

It appears that BG has received almost $12 million of the $14 million needed to start, and that is only 3 donations.

The biggest problem with a small arena is that you will never be able to buy home games with larger schools. There won't be 20-30K necessary to even bring in mid level similiar size programs.

Its also a shame that there still won't be a facility that can host concerts, graduations, or speakers properly.

If poor little oxford can support a 9K facility I think 7-8K shouldn't be unreasonable for BG.

I think 5-6,000 is plenty for BG.

Three words:

Gonzaga

The McCarthey Athletic Center has a seating capacity of 6,000 for basketball games. All seats are individual and have arm and backrests...

From that same Gonzaga page... hint... hint.....

The two scoreboards in the McCarthey Athletic Center feature a large, video display measuring 16 feet high by 9 feet wide. Guests will be able to view video replays and live action shots in 4.3 trillion shades of color. The scoreboards will present game-in-progress information, team and player statistics, animation, graphics and sponsor messages and promotions. Also, a 100 foot video ribbon board is located above the North and South bleachers.

Although... shouldn't it be 16 WIDE and 9 HIGH?

I don't think that this 4700 seat facility, with its foofoo extras and long term limitations, if financially justifiable. If all that we're doing is building another rinky-dink facility but with better parking, why bother? Really. We're buying another 50 years of humble inadequacy that will preclude so much. Let's take this $40M on something that will make a difference. Beyond location, exactly WHAT is this thing going to give us that AA doesn't? A bigger lobby? Better restrooms? A bigger locker room? I can't see spending $40M on something that won't be opening doors to bigger $$$ potential over the coming decades. I can't believe that BGSU couldn't find 100 more beneficial ways to use $40M.

Obviously the donors disagree with you.
