Of course it was only the first game of the year against a team that we probably shouldn't even have on our schedule (meaning the play book was severally limited), but Ian only gathered 87 yards. No other back did better. When ISU stacked the box and we ran, they stopped us about 70% of the time.

The key to Bowling Greens success in this game will be QB pressure. If the Falcons can somehow rattle our supposedly "unrattleable" (that a word?) new QB then Boise State will get out scored and lose.

I don't think our defense strikes fear in anyone at this point. They have a lot to prove still before they can claim to be close to the same level as the '04-'06 defense.

Good stuff Ghosttown. Our defensive end Briggs (#99) currently leads the nation with 5 sacks, hopefully he can keep it rolling on the smurf turf.

Then you are in for a rude awakening. Ian Johnson, DJ Harper, Jeremy Avery and Doug Martin may be the deepest and best RB corps in the west. No joke. Ian Johnson alone has averaged nearly 6 yards per carry in his four years at BSU while rushing for over 3,500 yards and 46 TDs. Johnson alone is far better than any back that Pitt has currently and Ian is actually the slowest of the 4. BGSU will have to play better run defense against BSU than Pitt, period. The only thing you have going for you there is that we have a young, small-ish O-line that is untested.

I agree with the part obout the o- line and D-line for that matter. This is a small Boise Team. Loiok at their depth chart. They will be at least 10 pounds lighter than BG at most of the front 7 positions.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you Boise fans haven't seen Shady McCoy play very much. He may be the best running back outside of Columbus in the country.

I'm not trying to slam Ian Johnson or any other back, but having seen both play McCoy is better.

There is one guy that none of the other BSU fans have mentioned yet. He's a sophomore safety, #23 Jeron Johnson. It's pretty much a consensus around our neck of the woods that during one game this season he is going to completely decapitate an opposing player. He's an absolute psycho, but a clean hitter at the same time.

If he hurts anyone, please accept my apologies in advance. He broke the nose of ISU's QB, about dismembered their punter, and rumor has it that their running back suffered a slight concussion.

I know your offense likes to utilize quarterbacks in many different ways. If that's the case this Saturday, keep your eye on this kid. He scares the hell out of people.

Phil steel has us ranked as the 7th best rb group. Athlon has us at number 5 and the only team in the west and ahead of usc. CFN has us at number 8 and the only team in the west accept usc. Down play Ian all you want, he was a first team all American in 06 when Steve Slaton, Darren McFadden, and Adrian Peterson were all tearing it up. These accolades came prior to the bcs game. Last year he was hurt for a lot of the season so he lost a lot of hype. Pitts backs are not as good as ours. There is not one publication that I have seen that will validate that. He is the same back. Problem is he may be the third best back on the team.

It really is a moot point, you think your guys are better. I disagree, if someone said you can have Johnson or McCoy I'm taking McCoy every time.

The point really is that BG doesn't care who is in at running back because they have already played against a top tier back. The same defense last year also played against Javon Ringer, Ian Johnson and Boise State's rb's are not going to oo or aw them.

If you think McCoy is the better back that is fine...but it is clearly based on preference of running style or potential...because McCoy has not accomplished what Ian has at this point. He had a stellar freshman year, but Ian has a 1700 yard 25 TD season in his back pocket. Apples and Oranges beyond that.

while i agree boise st has good rb's, its stupid to think that they are anywhere close to usc's stable. usc has the best backfield in the nation by farrrrrrrrrr.

p.s. hows horizon elementrey and west middle school, as well as boise raquet and swim club lookin these days, they used to be my old stomping grounds when we lived in boise for a couple years.

I think clemson would argue that. it not just a one publication saying boises backs are that good, its most of them. think what you want, we will see how ian does compared to that nice little pitt back

Can someone tell me by what method and when the team is traveling to Boise? I would think that it would make a big difference in the result, and I suspect the conditions are less than ideal.

By Greyhound, with stops in the Quad Cities, N. Sioux City, Iowa, Wall, South Dakota (to take in the tourist trap) and Pocatello, to visit Merril Hoge's boyhood home.

If there's a bit of truth in that and we win this game, I'll double my season ticket order for next year. Sh1t, I might even buy my tickets for the GMAC Bowl through the ticket office again (even though I got a nose bleed from the altitude).

They fly a charter out of Toledo International Friday noon and leave right after the game for BGSU.
