Some guys are better suited to compete against BCS teams then MAC teams because they are too big and stiff??? I've never heard that before. Hmm! I like that. We could use it on Pig 10 fans.mollautt wrote:=>Absolutely. I love McElroy as a player. He is a warrior. He will be very tough in the MAC. He will struggle in OOC games against taller BCS teams.
There are some players because of height are better suited to compete against BCS teams, but are not the best MAC players because they are stiffs. McElroy is the opposite.
Like I said, he reminds me of Danny Horace. Horace was a great MAC player who struggled in non-league games because he was just under 6-6.
THAT ALL SAID, I am no expert talent evaluator. When I was a senior at Miami, I watched a preseason Miami exhibition game against AIA or some foreign team. There was an incoming frosh for Miami who I thought looked terrible and would be a wasted scholarship. I was actually frustrated that Herb Sendek went all the way to Long Island, New York for this guy. That frosh, Wally Szczerbiak, a short 3.5 years later was selected by the T-Wolves as the 6th overall player in the 1999 NBA Draft.
So assign whatever value you want to my opinions.
Funny thing about Wally. I never thought he'd get a sniff in the NBA either, even after he played a few years. There would be no way he'd get open looks in the NBA, and he couldn't do anything but shoot.
ESPN Write-up
Danny McElroy, PF
Cincinnati, OH
La Salle H.S.
Scouts Grade: 67
Position Rank: 72
Former Bearcat commit Danny McElroy chooses Bowling Green
Power forward Danny McElroy verbally committed to Bowling Green on Wednesday, according to multiple sources. McElroy, who originally picked Cincinnati, chose the Falcons over Miami (Ohio), Ohio University and Kent State.
ESPN.com's National Recruiting Director Paul Biancardi breaks down McElroy's game.
"This kid is a tough, hard-nosed warrior on the blocks," Biancardi said. "He's the type of player that makes all the plays that don't show up on the stat sheet, whether it's diving for loose balls or grabbing a crucial rebound."
McElroy is not just a bruiser down low, according to Biancardi.
"He's a big time athlete, the type the Mid-American Conference doesn't see much of," he said. "Danny can score effectively with his back to the basket. His go to move is the jump hook and his counter move is the up-and-under. He can also hit the occasional jumper out to the three point line."
"McElroy has very strong hands and can really catch the ball down on the blocks," Biancardi continued. "And everything he grabs down there he usually finishes with a strong dunk."
Defensively, he can be a leader on that end of the floor.
"He is a very tough defender in the post," Biancardi said. "He plays with a high motor and truly cares about defense. McElroy has the ability to anchor Bowling Green's defense for years to come."
McElroy is the final piece to BG head coach Louis Orr's fine 2009 class.
"Coach Orr likes to utilize ball screens and he'll likely have McElroy 'pick-n-pop' or 'pick-n-roll' off those screens," Biancardi said. "Danny is the final part to a terrific recruiting class and should be considered the top freshman in the MAC next year."

The best part of the story was the quote at the very end: "Danny is the final part to a terrific recruiting class and should be considered the top freshman in the MAC next year." I love it!KPAFalcon wrote:Danny McElroy, PF

3 Miller 4 6-4 / Thomas 1 6-6 / Calhoun 1 6-7
4 Knight 2 6-7 / Marcshall 3 6-7

3 Thomas 3 6-6 / Calhoun 3 6-7
4 Knight 4 6-7 / McElroy 2 6-6
5 Madlock 4 6-8
Some notes..
1. For 2010 I would hope we go after 2 bigs and BPA.
2. That 09-10 team looks very very good. Well balanced and well built with a group of players that are very complimentary to eachother. Marschall/Knight and Polk. Jaku and Graves/Brown. Thomas and Knight/Brown/Graves. Raw athletes that can act as the glue players...Germain Fitchs...McElroy, Calhoun, Madlock
3. This is all up in the air, after all 14 is greater then 13.

I like hearing quotes like that, but I'll take anything Paul Biancardi has to say and 25 cents and walk away with...25 cents.

Yup, that's one damned fine recruiting class. The 09-10 team is something to look forward to.
I think we'll have a very, very solid team this year, too!
17-19 wins, anybody?
