ATHLON SPORTS ANNOUNCES THE 2008 SIDELINE SPIRIT CONTEST, SPONSORED BY JVC
We have selected Nikki Harris from Bowling Green State University to represent her school, community and the Mid-American Conference in round two of this year’s contest. Voting for round two will begin on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 12:00 a.m. and will run through 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10. Those wishing to vote must have an Athlon Sports account. Voting is limited to 20 times per day per account. Fans can also vote up to 10 times per day with a valid Facebook account through the Sideline Spirit Facebook application.
The Athlon Sports Sideline Spirit Contest is entering its sixth year and has proven to be one of the most popular programs on our website. This year’s sponsor, JVC, adds broad national exposure and promotion for this competition. At least thirty two spirit contestants from across the country will be chosen to participate in this contest, which runs from the beginning of the college football season in September until the national championship game in January.
We break up the program into four rounds, featuring seven cheerleaders or dancers in each round (one from each BCS conference and one non-BCS representative). Visitors to our website get the opportunity to show their school spirit by voting for their favorite spirit contestant. Lively message boards bring out the very best in school spirit and the rivalry of college sports. At the conclusion of the regular season, spirit contestants will advance to our championship round, which is held during the bowl season. They can advance to the championship round by either getting the most votes in her round OR getting the most votes in her conference. The winner of the championship round is titled the overall winner of the contest.
The winner will be featured in the 2009 Athlon Sports College Football annuals and her squad will receive $1,000, plus a JVC 42” TV with integrated iPod Dock, a JVC Full HD Hard Disk Camcorder, a JVC Enviro Hard Disk Camcorder, and a JVC Mini System with Built-In iPod Dock.

I believe each of the four rounds has 7 new contestants (whittled down from a larger pool, but not with online voting). Then, the winners from each of the 4 rounds will match up in the finals.Redwingtom wrote:Okay, what am I missing? She is one of 7 to make it to the second round but the current standings have 7 ladies shown, none of which are her???
In any case, Go NIKKI!!

Pretty sure that the pix you saw were LAST year's contestants...only reason for me to think that way is that my brother, the U.Cincy. grad, was pushing for ME to vote for the UC cheerleader LAST year...and her picture heads up the group. If he isn't washed away by IKE (he lives outside Houston), I'll have him return the favor.
