Men against boys out there tonight....
"Men" against "boys"??
The "men" didn't cover the spread (Boise -17/2) did they?
I think if you ask the "men" up there in Boise they will tell you they were in a dog fight. I think the "men" know that Bream's knees were down on the fumble. I think the "men" couldn't smell a first down in the second half. I think the "men" on defense for Boise are gonna sleep well tonight. I think that "man" at left tackle for them knows who Diyral Briggs is about now. I think someone needs to think about what game they were watching when saying it was "men" against "boys."

That was posted at halftime, and yeah, I thought it was at the time. But in the second half, no way, we played them straight up. Sucks to lose but I'm most concerned we didn't lose some keys guys for the rest of the year because after Wyoming, we have eight MAC games waiting on us that are all up for grabs.cowboyjoe wrote:"Men" against "boys"??

GO BG!!!
We were definitely not that overmatched at all. In fact, I don't think this Boise team is that great at all. Instead we missed 2 make-able FGs. We had a ton of boneheaded penalties, and a few turnovers that cost us big.
Same as last week our mistakes doomed us, and didn't allow us to be in a position to win the game.
I'm VERY happy with the way the defense played in the 2nd half, but I'm royally disappointed in the effort of our offense this year. We don't move the ball and when we do move it we shoot ourselves in the foot. Sheehan has not been good and this musical QBs crap ensures he'll never get in a rythmn. I have no idea what our offensive playcallers are doing...they don't seem to have any plan on how they want to attack defenses. Never in the Meyer/Brandon era has our offense looked so lost. Even the Barnes/Turner year we looked to have direction (we ran constantly), now we just seem confused at what we want to do. We rotate WRs in and out all game long, we alternate QBs, we switch RBs. I'm just baffled as to what we're trying to do offensively...

The problem is this year's offensive philosophy. The little sideline passes and cutesy option plays and rollouts work fine when there's room. Once the field shrinks and there are more players down in the red zone, there's no room for that stuff. Then, since we know our "normal" stuff won't get it done there, we resort to spastic trick plays and subs and formations. That stuffs awesome when it works (Pitt), but most of the time, it's just really hard to execute consistently.
Bottom line - if we can't line up and run the ball consistently, find a running QB that is a threat to throw the ball, or find a QB that can run some vertical passing plays, we will continue to struggle offensively no matter how well we can move the ball between the 20s.

I agree with you. Our guys showed some real heart out there in the second half. I still stand by my earlier statement that the team's game management was horrendously atrocious (yes, I know. Just let it be...). I'm not going to pounce on the coaching staff as so many are wont to do, because we don't know where the breakdowns took place. But, the fact that we were running the ball down two scores, with no timeouts, with under six minutes to go is a little bit beyond disconcerting.Flipper wrote:Men against boys?.....![]()
If our kicker doesn't miss a couple, we're heading in there for the possible go ahead score in the 4th qtr. The defense did a great job in the second half after struggling quite a bit in the first. Not real pleased to see us lose a winnable game, but I'm not gonna get all spastic and weepy over this one.
Congrats to Boise, they showed why they're 59-2 there at home. IMHO, the blue turf and the ad boards that run around the perimeter of the field are bush league, but hey if it works for you guys, I guess that's what counts....
I do agree with you that the whole "all blue" motif that Boise has going is pretty bush league. I know that Boise fans love it and think it is "unique," but the fact of the matter is that they have an unfair advantage that no one else in the nation has even tried to take advantage of, despite the fact that some of them claim that there is no NCAA rule prohibiting alternately colored turf. That being said, I thought that Tyler Sheehan did an excellent job of viewing the defense in those conditions. If receivers had played a better game, we could have easily won this one.
I'm happy with our team's talent level, but I'm concerned about the decisions that will be made going forward. As some others alluded to, I got the feeling that I was watching the Browns play tonight, and that perception had nothing to do with the colors...

Yeah, that part pissed me off too. The guy has a cannon , throws the deep ball better than Sheean and all he does is run a couple of plays or hands it off? Please. I do believe Beam was credited with one 4 yd pass.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:And while I'm thinking of it, was there a point to having Beam, the big rocket-armed QC come in just to run the ball or hand it off?

I thought you guys played very well. There was some strange play calling by both teams as well some strange penalties imo. Both teams played physical defense and it was really anyones ballgame. I think everyone who watched the game on TV thought Beam's knee was down but the crappy camera angles made it hard to tell. Anyway, props to your team for not giving up and really playing hard. It has been eons since anyone has held our offense to 20 points, especially at home. I knew this was going to be a tough game and the point spread was nuts because we haven't played anyone. Looking forward to going to Ohio for the return game. Hopefully your injuries are minor and good luck the rest of the year.

Although it didn't look like it was going to be in the first half, it did end up being a great game. In the end, your team was classy and played hard throughout. I'll always believe that your blue turf is an unfair, and unprecedented advantage, but your team and fans are a classy group. I can always respect that.bsuqzmoto wrote:I thought you guys played very well. There was some strange play calling by both teams as well some strange penalties imo. Good game, BG. It was much more of a defensive battle then I thought. I am very proud of the BSU defense tonight and you should all be very proud of the BGSU defese tonight as well—they really shut down the BSU offense that was rolling at one point. Most fans are heading towards the exits early in a lot of BSU games...that was not the case tonight and that was a testament to how hard the Falcons played the whole night.
However...please PLEASE stop with the "blue turf is unfair" argument. Do you REALLY think that at FIELD LEVEL there is any kind of camouflaging going on? It isn't hard for the fans in the fans to see and at field level there is no more "advantage" than Marshall, Oregon or the like could claim.

Everyone plays on a green field except for 1 team in the nation, that is where the competitive advantage comes in. It has nothing to do with uniforms.droo31 wrote:Good game, BG. How is a blue field a competitive advantage?????? BSU has a pretty dam good record on the road as well, so the blue field thing is sour grapes. Also, BSU went through the worst era in Bronco football in the late 90 with a blue field, so to say it gives them an advantage is garbage.Falcon137 wrote:Everyone plays on a green field except for 1 team in the nation, that is where the competitive advantage comes in. Your team played tough tonight, hats off to them for not giving up and hopefully your player's injuries were minor.

I am extremely disappointed in our offense. The Pitt game we scored 27 points, but that was because our D forced turnovers and put the offense in great field position. We didn't even have a first down in the first quarter of that game. Minnesota we only scored 17 points. Tonight, just 7. When was the last time we were shut out at the half? Our problem is that the offense doesn't produce big plays. College Football is a big play game. Our little 5 yard out routes and running plays get us first downs and when it is clicking it can be fun to watch. But, one penalty, one negative play, or one turnover and a 70 yard drive is killed. We move the ball 5 yards at a time and if we get a penalty or a sack, we can't recover. That's one of the reason I knew we would struggle to come back against Boise. We lack the ability of a quick strike score. And all camp I hear about how Vrilio has been drilling field goals and rarely missing. That's 3 misses on the season. All very makeable. He has been a huge disappointment.
Now, I figured going into MAC we would be 2-2. We beat Wyoming, which we should if we can score some points, we'll be fine. Our defense has been outstanding. Mainly because we have so many veterans on that side of the ball. We should all still like our chances in the MAC. Miami looks down and we don't play a fiesty Temple team. I think Buffalo and Ohio are our two worries right now. One is at home, one is one road. The week off will be good. Go out west, get back on the winning track and then own the MAC.

I thought BGSU came to play tonight. Good adjustments at the half. BSU really couldn't find a rhythm the whole 2nd half. And the FG's were just so close. Hope Turner is ok. Guys a baller. I was at the game and saw them walk him back to the locker room. He looked to be in a good amount of pain.
I am SOOOOO SORRY for all of you who had to watch the game as broadcast by our local TV station and put on gameplan. They are notoriously mediocre. Hopefully you just turned it down and listened to your radio while watching.
Good luck with the rest of the season!
