Whoa whoa whoa
Now the question here was playcalling. What I meant with the Playstation and video game comment was striclty about our game schemes. I know that just because I play and dominate in playstation doesn't mean that I can critique film, make recruiting calls, create practice schedules, motivate a team. This thread was on Playcalling, and Offensive Coordinators and in game management. To that, I say could be easily done. I am not saying that anyone could walk in off the couch and become a Division I-A football coach.
Again, my underlieing sentiment is that I like Brandon, like his fire, and commitment to his players I am just not completely sold on him as a head coach. . . yet. That could change. I am not an aimless basher, but based on the thigns mentioned earlier in the thread (some calls, adjustments) I am not 100% behind him quite yet. If he wins at TU or NIU we wouldn't be having this talk.

This is a bad situation any way you slice it. We have to either replace a head coach again or deal with a coach who apparently wants to be somewhere else. The recent history in the MAC suggests that bad things happen when a coach interviews elsewhere and stays. Gary Blackney looked elsewhere and never recaptured the success of his first two years.
Gary Darnell looked elswhere and WMU took a nosedive . Luther Pruett shopped himself to Houston and Marshall never was quite as dominant as they were before, even with the giant Arnold Coleman at QB.
Can the toothpaste be put back into the tube?

Um, that's "Arnold Jackson", actually, but I like where you're going with that!Flipper wrote: Luther Pruett shopped himself to Houston and Marshall never was quite as dominant as they were before, even with the giant Arnold Coleman at QB.
(We also would have accepted "Arnold Drummond", though I don't think a name change ever officially took place.

This is not directed at anyone in particular.
But I wonder if we are questioning Stud's abilities as an offensive coordinator -- despite two years of astonishing results on the field -- because:
-- he came into the program as a line coach
-- he looks like a meathead, bless his heart.
Certainly, line play and the so-called skilled positions are two distinct phases of the game. To know one is not to necessarily know the other.
But are we assuming, deep down, that Stud doesn't understand the so-called skill side of the offense because he looks like a meathead, bless his heart?
Line play is half the offense. All of these arguments we tend to get caught up in -- such as whether to split out Omar -- are absolutely irrelevant if the line doesn't produce.
Our offensive line play has been one of our team's greatest strengths these past few years. In fact, I would go so far as to say that our line is the rock upon which this team is built. That line -- and our quarterbacks -- are what make this team what it is. And Stud helped build that rock of a line.
I have no opinion on who our next head coach should be, should a decision be necessary this off season. That's Paul Krebs' job, and I trust him.
And I really don't know how strong any of our coaches are on an individual bases. As a leadership team, our coaches seem to have done pretty well together. Beyond that, I would hate to overanalyze. Players, parents and Krebs' staff are in a much better position to do that than I.
But I think we all need to be careful that we aren't minimizing Stud's talents for irrational reasons.
Again, this post isn't directed at anyone in particular, so please don't get all defensive.
I just thought it was time to put this throught out on the table. It's been bugging me for a while now.

That's what I get for posting in haste.
